I'm starting to get annoyed with reboots. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Remake Without Joss Whedon | /Film
Whedon's absence slightly raises the (low) probability that I'd watch this reboot. I'm just not fond of his work and usually avoid anything he's attached to.
Agreed. I can respect what the man tries to do with his material, I'm just not a fan of the final products.
Really? The Buffy series was incredibly well written. Angel was different and not bad (puppet episode probably being the best) Firefly was killed by Fox when they showed the episodes out of order but it had so much potential. Dollhouse has been great even with the NBC cut-up job on the first few episodes - too bad it's probably going to be canceled.
Yeah, really. I know not liking Whedon automatically gets me nerd card revoked in most circles, but hey. There are some Buffy eps I'm okay with ("Once More With Feeling" is the one that stands out to me, and the black-and-white one with the Gentlemen). But for the most part I never really got into it. I've seen a few episodes of Firefly and rented Serenity and personally can't stand it. I think it's the dialog that got to me the most. I think I've been spoiled by Aaron Sorkin because bad back-and-forth banter automatically turns me off. Half of Serenity's lines seemed like annoying whining and I was climbing the walls trying to finish the movie. My two cents.
I gave the Buffy series a chance a long time ago and I just thought it was terrible. This far out (been at least a decade, IIRC), I can't remember which episodes I watched or a lot of the specifics of what I disliked, but I do remember that the "Buffy Speak"/dialog really annoyed me...and from what I've read, Whedon carries that dialog style through a lot of his work. Whatever the factors, it was enough to put me off the show and Whedon in general. Leaving aside the Buffy/Angel series, Firefly is in a sci-fi subgenre that I don't like to begin with (the Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica/Stargate type shows) and the involvement of a writer whose prior work I disliked so much left me with no interest in seeing it. The premise for Dollhouse (which was renewed, IIRC) just didn't seem that interesting to me and I didn't have any confidence in Whedon being able to make it entertaining.
I thought Dollhouse was on FOX.... and this damn twilight crap is making everyone go the vampire route, can't blame them though, just don't think it'll last that long
No Whedon does not = fail. not instantly, i mean. The original movie was campy fun without Whedon. Besides, does it freak you out to see Whedon's name on the credits for "Roseanne" (as well as seeing that no talent hack Norm Macdonald at one point, too.) I guess we live in the age of hipsters that are too big to fail. Whedon, JJ ABrams, Dick Wolf, and at one time Stephen J. Cannell and Steven Bochco. Do i want a reboot? not in any rush for one. i think it would be nice to see another buffy-verse, just to see, it can derail, or it can surprise you. since we can't stop the rebooting of everything, i will sit back and wait. it sucks, i won't watch. The end. Speaking of VampTV, we've had Buffy, True Blood, that steaming turd Kindred: The Embraced, Moonlight, and so on. Why can't we have a realistic show for a change? I would love to see "Fat White Vampire Blues" either as a tv movie, or spun into a weekly series. it is different and charming
The Whedon style of dialogue I'll admit is a bit overbearing in Buffy, but it was different in Angel and worked well, I think. I haven't watched his other shows to make a judgment about them. My feeling is that a reboot without him is pointless and will fail before it even starts.
I'd be willing to watch if it's a mix of the Kristy Swanson vehicle, and the TV series. Enough action and gravity to keep it grounded, but still a bunch of silly fun throughout. The show or the movie on their own just didn't cut it for me. Other than Firefly, there's nothing Whedon's made that interests me. Nothing. So I'm not opposed to this reboot, not a chance.
Personally I'd rather have a Firefly retelling as a movie. I'm so bored with vampires. Like dinosaurs, sharks, asteroid strikes, volcanos and Egypt stuff it gets to a point where there's nothing new to be added.
