Actually, you know what, I don't like that they don't want to put the statue up, but I kind of understand their reasons for not wanting the statue to go up. They don't want the park to turn into some sort of advertisement, and Cap ain't real, and it comes across as a marketing ploy. Why not put up a statue of a REAL veteran? A fake comic book character isn't the same thing.

Well, putting up a statue of a real veteran in the park and then moving it in two weeks would be kind of weird, don't you think?

It violates the rules, pretty simple reason to not have it there regardless of how cool it may be.

No, not really. Stuff like that happens all the time. Pieces of art are put up for display and then moved to other museums or put away for restoration.

I'd rather have an actual soldier placed in public spaces to learn something. Having a dopey statue of Steve Rogers is only going to get me to look up Marvel comics.

HA, I almost formed an opinion on this and then realized how stupid that would be.

its going to be there for two lousy weeks you gits just suck it up and deal with it. If it was planned to be permanent it would be one thing bt its not.

That said i fully expect these complaints being brought by older folks and people way too worried about property values.

Well since it is only temporary I don't really see the fuss though I do see the other part of of the argument about it looking like a marketing ploy and I like the idea of putting a real veteran but then it comes down to which veteran? I think it is more what Captain America represents and how he kind of represents all veterans and their fighting patriotic spirit.

Hm. I understand the complain but I dont see the point of it. Its only a 2 week display. :S And its a cool thing to see and visit. I mean, I see Works of art displayed in streets for a couple days and its fun to see them in person.
    But its jus tmy opinión.

Would people still be OK with it if it was Ronald McDonald?

Who peed in your Wheaties? You notice everyone else in the thread? They have differing opinions. Only one person -so far- has had your reaction.
Maybe if you're this easily bothered by differing opinions than your own, it might be time to step away from the internet.

Something like that was brought up in the article. It's a fair question to make. This is a marketing tool, plain and simple.

And again, I agree with the folks that say this is silly (I saw that edgs2099)  to complain about, but I kind of get the reasoning as to why the people aren't happy with it.

On the one hand, I can see what people's issue is regarding it being a "commercial free zone", I imagine especially somewhere like New York it's nice to have somewhere you can actually escape the non-stop barrage of advertising. On the other hand it's only there for two weeks, and the kids corner doesn't seem like an entirely inappropriate place for a statue of Cap.

On the third hand, this is something that isn't worth having any strong opinion on either way unless you regularly go to that park IRL.
Yowza, somepony woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. You need to 20% cool down.

I'd say just suck it up and live with it for two weeks. Then it will be gone.

You know the parents that probably complained are the ones who won't buy their kids a branded toy. No 'commercial' toys for you Billy. Enjoy this no name brand set of wooden blocks.

People with too much time on their hands will find anything trivial to complain about. It's only two weeks, for crying out loud... and it's not like the statue is offensive. The statue will probably be vandalized by the time two weeks is up anyway.

It looks like the same statue that was on the convention floor at SDCC a couple of weeks ago.
