you know, the only thing I don't like about cutting the wing down into the proper shape is that it leaves the wings spaced so far apart. I really hate that they did that. Considering the basics shape of the main wings is similar to that of the F-22, they could've used that shape and not got in trouble. Are you going to use some putty or styrene (or cut down like you did the wings) the parts above the air intakes on either side of the cockpit to be shaped properly, too? That's one of the design elements that sticks out to me on this jet since they're not angled back like most jets, but angled forward.
So true. The surface area should cover more area to the back. Atm... not really my priority on this fig. But it is the same problem as the wings....the overhanging panel is already small itself... trying to cut it into the real shape would basically result in a downsized shape of the real thing. Plus, it's tricky as hell with the smooth brown/orange toplayer paint ; I used a pre heated exacto knife to cut the wings & toes, then sanded them. The paint on the air intake panels will get really rough if I cut it like that ... i think.... with the styrene solution ; i would have to match the exact paint app. I don't think i'm qualified for that. lol.
nah, it's the only place on the whole toy that has that color brown. just wipe it all off and paint or don't paint it (your own brown). I agree on the cutting down part, I think if I were to do it that I'd just use putty, it'd be the easiest way to do it.
Thanx ! Basically my first attempt at customizing a TF. I used the cooking stove to preheat the exacto knife ; taped off a straight cutting line on the mold ; then the cutting went buttersmooth. Another action pose. The 4th toes were really redundant :
I just bought a 1:72 scale "easy assemble" model kit of an F-22 to add details to V. Starscream. Maybe you could nab the wings off a 1:72 F-35 and add them on to fill out the rear. The kit was $6.00, but I amnot sure if they would be too big for a deluxe. Looks good though, and you did a great job on the much needed toe amputation!
Thanx ! I do recommend using a really well heated exacto knife though... The main wings have ribs running underneath, so you need the least friction/resistance to the blade otherwise you might wind up with an uneven line ; and you cannot bring back what is lost and a putty job would be hell to correct it. Posing this guy is really fun... and he doesn't miss the 4th toes at all
Thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure whether I'd get Breakaway at first but I like the way his head peeps out and his overall robot mode is quite unique as far as jet-formers go. I think a repaint in the same colors as his CGI render from the ROTF game might also be in order in addition to the mods as his stock colors look a bit pale.
You might wanna look around for the darker brown version then, which makes the contrast with the blue & green a bit more stark. Ow btw... I desaturated my pics a tiny bit, because otherwise the green plastic would look way too toy-ish on camera.
I'll have to keep a look out as I'm not sure if both variants have been seen in the UK yet,I've seen Breakaway a couple of times and it was the lighter one.
