bravo...really hope this brings back pretenders even if it's just in a small aspect. side note though....anyone planning to sell or trade off the megatron? he's the only one i'm interested in.
Not that I think the character is bad, but they just made a G1 Pretender shell and put a Legends to inside. They didn't figure put anything amazing. Fans have been doing that for years.
You can't possibly downplay the feat that this is. This looks to be an all original sculpt. What fans where have been making Oilmaster shells? I think your bias is showing.
Yeah. How weird and awesome would it be to get him too in the same year? Pretty weird and awesome in my book.
No, I just mean this isn't making a "Modern Pretender", it seems to be making a new G1 Pretender with a Legends toy inside it - or does the shell have more articulation than I first saw? I'm not questioning that it's a new shell, but I would like to know if it's a "modern" shell. If they did at least add a couple more joints in the arms and legs, I'll agree it's a "modern" Pretender. Otherwise, it's a G1 shell with a Legends inside, which fans do make. Heck, a while ago there was a whole Pretender shell on Shapeways. Cost a fortune, but it was there. Did the gorilla shell have more than 3 joints? I think that is the most joints any G1 shell had.
And improve on it. I wouldn't mind seeing Hasbro revisit the Pretender concept. But the shells being pretty much action figures themselves would have to have atleast basic articulation, by today's standard, to be acceptable. Elbows, knees, and head swivel at minimum.
I kinda want Oilmaster, his gorilla shell reminds me of a battle beast, but using the Swerve mold is kinda lame since the head is very specifically Swerve.
So, for the record, in your opinion... Figure that homages a popular character: Bad (Botcon 2014 Scorponok) Figure that homages an obscure character: Also Bad?
Articulation isn't everything, the sculpt is clearly head-and-shoulders above a G1 Pretender. Much more detailed, crisp, and with far superior paint with a very different aesthetic than a G1 Pretender. I mean, G1 Ravage has more articulation than MP Ravage, does that mean MP Ravage isn't more modern?
It has four joints - neck, both shoulder swivels, and the hinge on which the backpack flips up to open the inner robot storage. Plus, he does say multiple times that it's not the finished product but instead the hard copy prototype he's using in the video, so the final version might have hip articulation at the very least. Sorta like this, I guess? Of course, the fact this is a relatively large accessory to be whipped up without a Hasbro budget does mean there probably were some cutbacks to make things afordable - same reason all the ultras used in previous years were stripped of electronics. Additionally, Oilmaster's shell comes off as kind of a dual homage. I'm getting some serious Battle Beast vibes from him...
