Just got this email from Angie: "No, I am sorry we did limit these to 1 per person and we have officially sold out today. Thank you." Good for the club, bad for anyone who waited.
I get the feeling a lot of these boxes are going to end up on eBay, because they've yet to say they've run out of space at the con despite all the boxsets being sold out @_@;
Wow, this year's set sold out really fast. Hopefully there will be a plethora of loose figures on eBay shortly after Botcon.
Yeah, thankfully I've already secured myself a loose set from a fellow board member so I can nab the figures I want (Grimlock, Prime) and sell the others, and he's nabbing me the at con figures as well. So I'm good, but still, if I could have upgraded to a boxed set, that would've been nice.
"You snooze, you lose", right? Oh well, I wasn't planning on getting one of these anyway. It was a little too much money for me, and it might even be iffy if I can save up enough money to even go to Botcon this year.
I'm inclined to agree. Last year we were on our 4th hotel when the sets sold out. I have a feeling we are seeing multiple set purchases by more and more people. It'll be sad if it's a pretty empty show with a not a lot of $$$ spent in the dealer room because everybody is broke until their Ebay auctions end...
I got my box set and I will be purchasing multiple attendee only exclusives. Last year the figure I wanted the most was Alpha Trion. I hope Megatron and the other attendee only exclusives are as good as Alpha Trion. If I can find one, I'll purchase an extra loose set.
hmm if that is true dealers will drop prices to sell inventory so good for me. I will be hunting a japaneese classics megs, mp megs, encore skylinx, and any other G1 deals/parts I want
Whoa! Not entirely surprising, but even so, what a strange turn of events. We go from stagnating 2005 box sets and one crazy-selling at-convention set (Ratchet) to a well-done and popular set whose attendee exclusives sell out and the box set eventually doing so as well, to the madness of last year. And now this. Thankfully, I've already secured the only two out of the set I really felt were worth the effort and cost (Grimlock, Goldbug), so I'm good to go. Though the full set, at the normal price, might not have been too bad if I had the cash to go for it at the time of the Great Fax Races.
It was not hard to get a set. Anyone who didn't get one has no one to blame but themselves and deserves to pay the secondary market prices for it.
For fellow board members, or to scalp? If the former, awesome! If the latter, why be mean and brag about it?
Even last year they weren't talking about having run out of space at the con until after they'd announced the sets selling out. Which they still haven't even done on the site yet (this is not to dispute the legitimacy of the claim, but rather to say that such a comment about their failure to comment on lack of space is premature).
A reasonable counter-point to my statement just above. But since Brian didn't expect this convention to be as large anyway, it may well be that the venue's quite a bit smaller. Does anyone who knows these areas (RI and OH) have some information that could corroborate or refute this?
Im boina be the opposite of what most are saying and go this way: I think that the set is actuallt pretty popular and that some may end up on ebay/other sites, most wont. I mean I think that most people genuinly like this set and are excited to get it! I know I am. And I fear some may like it but not admit it openly. I am expecting to see allot of peeps in cincy this year!
Hmm. That's interesting. Now, honestly, I really had very little interest in this set and no interest paying secondary market prices as I really don't like any of the figure concepts except for Jazz (and maybe the at con Megatron that was mentioned), but I do find it interesting that we're only into the second hotel and the boxsets are already sold out. Weren't we at hotel four or five last year when that happened? I do wonder how many 'extra sets' are going to wind up on eBay or if they just genuinly under produced this years set. I guess only eBay will really be able to answer that once we see the number of exclusives online after the start of the convention. Though, I kind of hope that everyone who intended to attend and get a set got one... otherwise you might as well just do a walk in at this point, because the classes and othere bells and whistles were pretty full too last email I got about them. Oh well, I couldn't afford to go this year and wasn't real impressed with the set so it's no skin off my back. I just find this whole talk of scalpers vs. short production runs as it's an off movie year interesting personally.
I can only speak for the Duke Energy center. Its a rather large place thats divided into multiple sections. So it really depends on what FP was looking for. EDIT: does anyone know where at the duke energy center its being held? here is the floor plan! http://www.duke-energycenter.com/700/FloorPlans&CapacityChart.asp I would suspect the ballroom!
