Chicago from Detroit shouldn't be bad...now to start saving...
I am 200% behind this idea. But it will probably never happen. I think even the show's organizers said so.
Glad that the club gave us the Botcon location and dates early. By my count, we now have nearly 8 months of advance notice. That is very nice and allows for some planning. Thank you club!
Looks like there will be a sneak peek at the convention set in Timelines issue #10 coming out in December (according to the press release).
Selfishly, I'm sad it's leaving California because Pasadena is a short drive from where I live and makes picking up a box set and any attendee exclusives quite easy, so that was a nice luxury to enjoy this year.
For all others, especially non-CA residents, I'm happy if this moving out of CA for 2015 makes it easier for you to attend for once.
(The location, given the announcement this week amidst TFCon kicking off, is interesting on some level, but it could be a coincidence for all I know.)
I'll only be annoyed by the location if 2015 is when they finally do a Diaclone set, or another G2 or Animated set.
That's probably the only way i'd ever go to a Botcon.
My brother lives 2 hours away from there. Might be a good chance for some bro time.
Hello first Botcon for me... Time to start saving!
Yes Chicago is Central. It may not be the singe exact geographic dead center point of the contiguous 48 states, but it's certainly "central".
Closer...but not close enough.
Can't get any rooms from the 15th to 21st, anyone else having this issue. In fact, only rooms available seem to be from the 18th to 21st.
did not let me book for 2 adults from tue-sunday. I'm not sure what is going on with their reservation system.
yes, I'm having the same issue.
Pretty close to Center as the geographic center of the contiguous United States is Lebanon KS, so 680 miles from true center
See, that's a HUGE distance to my thinking. More than a full day's drive away (unless you're driving more than 11 hours non-stop or breaking the speed limit, neither of which I recommend).
That said, I would consider the center of population more relevant than the geographic center. For the US, that would be Plato, Missouri, which looks to be only 455 miles away. That's more safely within day-drive parameters.
Perhaps even better (but getting away from "Center" language, which I think is unhelpful, anyway), Chicago is a major hub. For me, at least, that brings the cost of travel down (which I already said wasn't so bad for LA to Chicago). That's the thing that keeps more folks away than the actual distance, per se. If you have something that's in Missouri, but far from any airport, it's not going to appeal to as many would-be travelers as even Chicago does.
I have both family and friends who live within a 20 minute drive from the convention and it is during my vacation time, so I think there is an incredibly high probability I'll be there for my first Botcon!
Holey crap that it actually relatively nearby to me...
