ive given this some thought and heres my opinion: the design itself doesnt really allow for much personal interpretation with the details mostly derived from the masterpiece toy, but the effort in itself is highly commendable. draven is a great example of english diligence. which is not a bad thing considering some of my personal favourite architects are brits whove exhibited this exemplary tradition, the likes of norman foster, richard rogers, michael hopkins et al from the 80s high tech movement. in summary, kudos to you sir.
wow. Awesome Pete!! I freaking *love* the way you interpreted the head. I hope you show us a closer look soon. Megatron's lips can be a such a bitch to model but I think you took a really good approach to it. I look forward to seeing it at BotCon!
Draven, you're probably going to be annoyed with me, but at the risk your displeasure, I'm going say I'm not a big fan of Megatron's face. There are a few things going on that just don't look right, mainly, being too thin. His cheeks need to be fleshed out a bit more because they are way too sunken in on the sides. Face is also possibly too long, either way, his mouth needs to be brought up higher. You need to give more lip definition, especially for the upper lip (this is NOT to say you should make fat lips). There are no hard edges that define the sharpness of certain features like cheek bones, jaw line, etc that are found on nearly every rendering of Megatron made. Out of curiosity, did you hit the face up with a MeshSmooth modifier or hit TAB in Lightwave to get sub-D surfaces? If using sub-D for the face, you may want to try creasing the edge weights a bit to define harder edges in areas where hard edges are needed. Asides from all those tweaks, you're mechanical/structural modeling is really solid and very well done, especially those ridges in the hammer and safety. Go Pete, go!
I'm not annoyed at all, d00d; after all the purpose of WIP threads is to get feedback on stuff. Besides, I agree with you, which is why I'm still up at 7am posting this updated pic: I widened his cheeks, moved the mouth, and gave the lips a little more definition. Thanks for the crits; I knew something was off with the face but I couldn't quite put my finger on it
It really does look great. My only critique would be to maybe not make it as symmetrical as it is. Perhaps a slight sneer or something. Hard to pull of and not make it look like Elvis. Just raising one side of the upper lip a slight amount might make it pop. *edit* okay, one more thing. I think if you could see some of his neck it might help some.
yea, i kno how much of a pain it is 2 get megatrons face right in 3d....took me many attemps 2 get it as close as i could too to be honest. nice work so far m8.....hope u win the contest.......u get my pm by the way?
he's best keepin it symetrical 4 now while in the modelling stage...i imagine he will b editing it when complete 4 various facial poses perhaps with morph targets....its best 2 keep the model in a default pose when building to be honest, especially if you will be rigging it for animation later....are you gona be animating him sometime by the way draven?
