Im trying to determine if its worth signing up or not so... For those who are going to Botcon '05, who's planning on going on the "Where the west begins" tour on that Thursday? If anyones ever been to these places, is it worth it?
I think it would be interesting, but it would require me shelling out an extra $50 for the trip, plus another night at the hotel, plus another day's food budget, PLUS blowing another vacation day at work because I'd have to leave a day earlier. So while it sounds neat to me (though I do dig history more than probably most people), it would set me back another $200 plus an extra vacation day, and I just can't justify that.
I think history is interesting as well as science museums and other things. I don't know if I would do it or not either. I am sure I will here people's reviews if they do or do not go on it. I know someone who is planning on not doing it for thinking it could be boring and has nothing to do with TFs. I was told by someone else that there is not much to do in Texas. The GI Joe con one is being taken to Fort Snelling and maybe Mall of America??? Its been years since I've been to Fort Snelling. I can see that since its an old army base it has somethng to do with Joe.
Meh. I live in Fort Worth and I don't really have any desire to tour the stockyards. I drove through all that by accident once...that was enough for me. Now the museums are another matter...The Modern, Kimbell and Amon Carter museums are all worth checking out, IMO. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Fort Worth kinda sucks (how much fun can 10,000 rich TCU students be?), but there's no shortage of stuff "to do" in Dallas or Houston. Even S.A has merits. And if this person were to come to Austin, they wouldn't sleep for a week. On a semi-related note, The Bravery is playing in Dallas on Fri., Sep 23, for those that wanna blow off casino night and get drunk watching a band that does the whole early '80s thing better than The Killers.
Been to Fort Worth twice. Once to see the Stockyards (never again ) and once to see the Japanese garden that is there, which by the way is beautiful. And Dallas is an incredible city. You can always find stuff to do in Dallas if you look hard enough for it. I actually can't wait. Not going on the tour since I have already been to all those places, but I'm excited to be going back to Dallas.
To clarify... is that all that's going on Thursday? A tour of some stockyards? What about Friday? As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like anything is scheduled for Friday either. I might go a few days early for Transformers related things, but I have zero interest in the history of Texas. If there's nothing going on Friday either, other than picking up registration materials, then I could get away with showing up Friday afternoon, rather than Wednesday evening.
According to the prereg form, Friday is: Late reg. pickup & walk-ins Contest judging Dealer Setup Registered guests' preview I'm planning on arriving on the Friday. I'm not going on the trip, since I'm trying to save as much money as I can for toys (also because I'm spending the week and a half before Botcon visiting people in Kansas & Sacramento).
Also, there is a Casino Night on Friday where at the end of the evening there will be an auction you can bid on with the money from the casino. I don't know how long the Late reg will be open, but if you pre reg for a Primus Package you automatically get $50.00 in gaming coupons and if you pre ref for a Protoform Package you automatically get $25.00 in gaming coupons. $100.00 coupons will be available for $20.00 They just list whats available from art to vintage figures. I might go check it out and spend my $50.00 in coupons but unless that have a rare or exclusive art or vintage figures I am not spending any more money then that. I don't want to be bidding on a MOSC Seaspray Or a loose Wheelie. I want to see the stuff before I spend any of my money. I don't want to be bidding on crap.
