Been wanting to have crack at Sunseekers pet from Idw comics for a while. I sketched out multiple views to work from based on screen shots and Google images. As I was drawing him last night I realised a dinobot like Slag or Snarl would of been a good base if anyone wanted to try making one although I liked the idea of building him completely from scratch. I started with a metal skeleton to get the shape, secured the legs with hot glue, then I used foc Blasters back plate that was spare and matched the shape of the top of his back quite well, the started to slowly build up the areas with hot glue. Mulliput sculpting putty is what plan on finishing most of the surface with starting with the head and neck area, it was fun doing his face need to invest in some sculpting tools as a bit limited with odds and ends but it's just like working with clay and sets off the more you go ending up rock hard in 24 hours and then sandable. I highly recommend if you haven't tryed it already. The last thing I did was the thrusters things? on his back were spare from a custom car gear knob used for fitment seemed ideal that's as far as I got last night. Trying to make him scale with deluxe and masterpiece see references in pics below. Looking at it this morning I feel I've made the neck too long and not sure how I'm going to make his tiny little arms and mini hands yet. I'll update this thread as I progress
This is cool, but I swear I had a toy of that in the 80's. Didn't one of the action masters come with him as an accessory or gun or something? Is this a Mandela effect thing?
I mean I know where this is going, but as of yet he looks like a freakin' sleep paralysis demon, haha.
Ok, memory was a bit off. This is the one I was thinking of Google Image Result for https://www.dallasvintagetoys.com/images/products/detail/IMG_6986.1.jpg
This is the progress I made last night, the cover came loose off his back while I was filming his head so used the opportunity to move it down a bit to shorten his neck, built up some more hot glue areas, the rumaged through my spare parts tubs for some detail bits. Found a use for the movie Megatron claw hands spare from Rack and Ruin perfect for his main front hand/claws Bob (IDW) - Transformers Wiki Read about Bob's fun life as Sunstreaker pet insecticon loyal as a puppy dog to him and the cause
I wonder if the back half of his torso could be made from KO grimlock lower legs/tail. Kind of has that shape
Definitely dinobot for a base would save a lot of time originally before i decided to scratch build him iwas going to get some cheap insecticons and try to butcher them into him.
I had a break Wednesday night not long pocket toys Combaticons set arrived so I felt inclined to dust off my old xbox 360 and play as them on transformers fall of cybertron still a great game love when you form into Bruticus. Anyway made some more progress last night attached the claw hands, shoulder pads, filled out a lot areas with hot glue to build up his shape so now onto the putty stage. I did the forearms and back legs and a bit of his back but had to stop there as when you smooth off the putty it's hard to hold it to do more work without smudging it while it sets so letting what I've done set off before attempting more. Should be good for sanding those bits tonight then add putty to the other areas. Also thought I would make the wrist razors out of styrene and sink them into the putty when still soft to make them more stable so even if they do come off I should just be able to glue them back into the holes made. Slag was down to help with the rear leg sculpt work to get the shape right as I felt they were quite similar
The only thing that seems off is the neck. Bob never had a neck that long. Otherwise this looks really good. You're not going for posable figure though?
Yes totally agree by the time I realised it was too long I had already gone to far, so the best I could do was try to move down the plastic bit to cover up some of it to give the impression it was a bit shorter. No I was going to try a posable figure originally by splicing together different insecticons but still quite happy to settle on a 3d model of him. If I did him again or could offer advice to anyone else that wanted to attempt making there own Bob I would reccomend using Slag or Snarl as a base for articulation and a Bombshell head. Not long got into this sculpting putty and wanted to see what I could do with it
Bob's now all painted up at some point I'll do some pictures of him with both Sunstreakers and crew. Just invested in some sculpting tools as all I had to use on him were screwdrivers, an old dentist tool and whatever else I could find round the house so next sculpt will be better.
