Wow, this was hard work! New Bludgeon head for the ROTF Voyager mold. G1 Style. IDW style will be done by the end of the week. New swords and and top gun still to come.
seriously hate that head. however it's not your modeling skills i'm knocking. it's just i absolutely loath the fact the kitbashers keep putting a human skull on the robot mode of bludgeon. pretender shell, yeah that's fine but the robot form? he has never had a human skull outside of his pretender shell.
Man I can tell that you will be winding up with a good portion of my money, keep up the good work though.
Personal preference being what it is, I like it. Kitbashers can do whatever they want, that's kind of the point. Now if Hasbro did it, feel free to vent. I think taking the design attributes of the two separate modes of a character and combining the best elements of the two into a single aesthetic makes a lot of sense. Plenty of people have done this with Thunderwing and I've never once heard someone say he should look like this: which is his ROBOT mode after all. I don't think anyone can argue that Bludgeon is at his most iconic with a skull.
but thunderwing is unique in that his shell has always been a transformer so he straddles the issue. also it's not a skull head for bludgeon i have issues with it's the human skull head that gets to me there are various other ways to give him a skull style head without it just being a human skull attached to the robot.
Okay, kinda I see your point, but to me the entire samurai look is indicative of Earthen culture, so why wouldn't it be humanesque? The original design Cashanova did for this head was more in keeping with the War Within style, I personally asked him for this (think he was gonna do it anyway to be fair) as I want a G1 style Bludgeon that facially looks like he did on the covers of all the UK TF comics.
transformer faces are humanesque but still notably artificial. i don't mind human traits showing up in the faces but there has to be an aspect of the artificial to them. you know thinking about it further it only takes a little to make a head like the one designed by cashanova or the multiple example of human skulls that have been added to ROTF bludgeon more artificial heck one example would be like the face in ShadowBreaker's icon make the skull look more like segmented parts but anyway since you asked for it to be this way i can't really argue over your right to like a certain style/imagery
Who said it was a human skull? Is it even a skull? Could it not be a carved mask/face plate made to drive fear into his prey? Was it carved from the bones of one of his fallen, honorable combatant, and worn in respect. Is the Samurai helmet part of his head or just some snazzy head gear? In the Japanese cartoon the Decepticon Pretenders took the forms of Dark gods to spread fear in humanity. Can't a Dark god have a skull face? All these questions answered and more on next weeks episode of 'Everybody Loves Bludgeon'. Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.
What can I say, I put my hands up to being a dyed in the wool Furmanite. You do argue your points sensibly and with conviction, always nice to have a decent debate. I was also gonna bring up the Japanese Dark gods comparison. In conclusion, if I ever did a Longtooth custom he would have to have a grizzled old walrus look, not sure how, but to me that is the character. I couldn't even say what his robot mode looks like.
I like this. When will it be available? and how much will it cost? {The stock ROTF bludgeon head is not that special and if you're doing swords that don't bend out of shape too, instant win.} Also of note is that in the G1 comics Bludegon spent the majority of his time inside his pretender shell (the robot form is seen in the war within comics mind.) so I actually prefer the skull motif pretender shell head as it gives him a lot more character than his generic looking robot head.
Thanks! Swords are done. No idea how much they'll cost untill they're uploaded, which will be some time tonight.
honestly while you could probably get away with that reasoning as some of the angles and dimensions on your head are a little weird, most of the other attempts i've seen have been a straight up human skulls just plastered to the robot body which breaks my suspension of disbelief.
Now available to order on shapeways. It's running at around $25 depending on the material. This kit consists of one G1 styled, 3 part head and 2 replacement swords The IDW styled kit will be finished at the weekend.
