I rolled my eyes when this was announced, but the trailer when I saw WW has convinced me to give this a chance. It does look visually pretty and a return that world, if nothing else.
Watching these trailers seem to hint at some sort of twist ending, kind of like a Battlestar Galactica/ we're all a little bit of Cylon type of revelation. Yes ?
I've been very opinionated over the years about how I think Blade Runner was an okay-at-best movie, has always been seriously overhyped, and does not hold up over time at all, and while I think another one of these decades-later sequels is 100% unnecessary, I'll still watch it. Mainly because the trailers thus far have done a great job in making it look & feel like the original vs. being overly CGI flashy. I still may not actually like it, but I nevertheless want to see how it turned out.
As usual; you can save your opinionated disagreeing snark for someone else that doesn't share your views. I got off that cyclical hamster wheel of yours ages ago. I don't think it holds up at all, and hasn't since as far back as 5 years after it came out - deal with it. Exactly how I think neither does Alien, or The Terminator, or Total Recall, or virtually any of the other terribly cheesy retro sci-fi holy grails that minions are told they can't ever criticize because it dashes their wannabe film snob internet street cred.
Hey, everyone has at least one example of not being on board with some movie universally considered a classic. But how does Blade Runner not hold up? Directors are still biting off it more than 30 years later. If that doesn't hold up, no science fiction movie ever made does.
I'd be curious to know this as well. Is it because of the time frame intersecting with our current reality?
This looks good. I must admit I've never seen the first Blade Runner. *an angry mob with torches and pitchforks assemble outside prowl07's residence*
BLADE RUNNER 2049 First Reactions Hail Denis Villeneuve's Sci-Fi Sequel As A Groundbreaking Masterpiece
Has anyone seen the short films that followed? I'm actually really curious about this. Blade Runner is one of those movies which requires thought that I see myself being able to re watch for the thematic elements of humanity and what they could evolve into.
