Or at least handle it better if they absolutely had to put it in, I agree. Wakanda being a world power, you expect a reaction from the rest of the world for something regarding stolen vibranium, let alone a whole new underwater nation under Namor.

I just watched this for the first time last night, holy man did that ever need to be an hour shorter, so much un-needed dialog.

That was the first marvel movie I ever fast forwarded and skipped to a more interesting part.

It was good, but too long, too predictable, i just wantes to see them use the new suit at the end. Got a bonus and was excited to see three new suits, woo! Pretty kick ass fight scenes though!!

Just watched it and I hate it as much as Love and Thunder but for different reasons.

Thank god Ant-Man looks good to me so far, I just hope it doesn't fail me like these last two Marvel movies I watched did.

Watched this the other night with the family and it was admittedly rather staggering hearing my mother say “oh no” in a really broken sounding voice when you first see Ramonda arriving to tell Shuri that T’Challa had died. And then I’d say the silence during the Marvel Studios logo was even more painful this time. It was just heavy.

When Ramonda died, my mom said “how much more can they take?!” And then she was shocked when Toussaint showed up. Really fun to listen to.

Watched it last night. I didn't have very high expectations but overall it wasn't bad. Better than I thought it would be. Agree it's too long though and the CIA stuff didn't seem to go anywhere.

Really I think what should have happened was they should have recast T'Challa. But that would only have been plausible if we had a letter or something from Boseman before he passed saying that is what he wanted and AFAIK we have no such communication.

His family have said that Chadwick would have wanted T'challa to go on. Feige himself I believe admitted he/Disney made a knee-jerk reaction because the news was still fresh at the time. I think if they let some time pass, they probably would have recasted.

That said, I like how they handled it in-movie.

I think a lot of us accepted back when this film was being made that there would be no correct answer for what to do about T'challa. They made their choice from a unwinnable problem and stuck with it.

Agree. I also heard that about his family, but to me it's not the same as having some kind of explicit communication from him. Without that I think there would be a lot of reluctance from Coogler and the rest of the cast to make a film with a recast T'challa.

Rewatched this last night with my wife. Still think it's too long and a bit disjointed narratively. It's not terrible by any means but it's another unfortunately mediocre Phase 4 film. It doesn't live up to the first film (and without T'Challa there's no way it would) but at least it's better than films like Black Widow and Love & Thunder. The best characters in the film were Queen Ramonda and M'Baku the second of which should have gotten way more screen time. Okoye feels like she got screwed since her subplot got truncated. Riri was just kind of there and wasn't terribly compelling either way. Same with Nakia really... disappointing considering she was one of the best parts of the first film. I somehow found Shuri even more annoying in this film than in the first and I'm glad that while she's going to be the Black Panther that she's letting the wiser M'Baku lead Wakanda moving forward by the looks of things. I have zero interest in ever seeing Namor in the MCU again. I've never been a big fan of the character because he's a massive douche, but he's always been a 'you love to hate him' type. I didn't think it was possible but they somehow made Namor much more unlikable and obnoxious than his comic counterpart. Attuma and Namora were a lot like Riri and Nakia in that they were just kind of there, but with less of actual importance to do in the film than those two.

There was a recent interview as well where they said that Coogler threatened to walk if they recast T'Challa also. They didn't want to lose him as well so they let him have his way.

For what it’s worth I really wasn’t a fan of hearing that the original plot was going to be yet another Lone Wolf and Cub rehash but with T’Challa and Toussaint. That’s not to say that that was going to be the only plot if Chadwick was still alive, but if his passing ruled that out entirely, I find it acceptable.

This presenter doesn't really have the best production value but he makes a lot of interesting observations about the movie, gaps in the plot and the deleted scenes

What if Queen Ramonda didn't die and actually became the Black Panther?

Like, her saving Riri puts her in a coma instead, the rest of the movie continues the same, Shuri takes the herb and sees Killmonger, then goes to fight Namor.

Before the fight though, maybe they give the herb to Ramonda as well to heal her but it doesn't seem to take.

Its during the battle at sea that Ramonda after seeing her son and husband, together they realize that Shuri's grief is turning into vengeance and awakens, getting the AI to make her a new suit and heads out.

Its during the final moments of Shuri's and Namor's duel that when she is about to kill him Ramonda intervenes. At first happy to see her mother, Shuri would turn in a mix of emotions to turn on her mother who is trying to protect Namor at this time and all her grief, loneliness and self hatred would lash out. The two fight and after an embrace Shuri lets go of her hate and actually grieves with her mother.

It would be be then, Namor, the man without love would be given some mutual understanding and he would accept to their terms of peace.

The ending would be the same, just with a different Black Panther taking the mantle.

That would be garbage. And untenable for sequels or franchising with a lead already 64.

This is what happens when you try to bring a made-up name into existing languages.

    Though it is funny enough.

Sorry to say but this sounds unnecessary. Especially Ramonda and Shuri sparring and making it another MCU hero fights another version of themselves. The climax as is is fine. I like the idea of Ramonda coming to Namor’s defense in this moment but it would be kinda inconsistent considering she was ready to fight back the moment he came out of the water.

Not that Angela Bassett isn’t still killing it at 64 and rarely if ever does she look that age. :lol

Very well deserved. They had to do Wakanda AND Talokan.

I find it hilarious that people have mocked Namor's green underwear for decades, and now a film featuring them has gotten an Oscar for best Costume Design.

Well, at least in the film they had the good sense to make them trunks instead of green-scaled speedos.
