Makes me wonder what expectations they have for Quantumania and what they’ll consider a financial success from that.

Watching the movie, I find odd that with how OP talokian soldiers are, they haven´t gone on a rampage on the surface world before. Their basic infantry seems on par with super-soldier enhanced serum and they manhandled the wakandians in nearly every encounter.

Yeah, I don't consider this film to be a flop. It cost 250m to make and if we go by the average rule of thumb that marketing is equal to 50%-100% of the budget then the break-even for it at the highest would be 500m. Given the current box office is 734m and it looks to be on its way to making Multiverse of Madness money (about 955m) it's far from a box office flop. Most people seem to forget that most of the early Marvel films barely broke 600m prior to the first Avengers. Now Black Widow which had a budget of 200m and only had a box office take of 379m... could certainly be considered a flop.

Because they want to be left alone, which is why they're so hellbent on keeping their presence hidden from the surface world. Plus, there's the numbers thing. If they started a war with the surface world, they'd be vastly outnumbered. Now, if they get some surface allies...

More like puppet state. I think that was Namor´s whole stich. Wakanda is now its junior partner and a great meatshield against the surface world. If he has to throw Wakanda under a bus, he will do it.

Graci. I haven't read it yet but is there anything on the cutting room floor like the super-heated scene between W'kabi and Okaye in the first movie? I really can't believe they cut that scene.

There are some deleted scenes is a subplot regarding Riri's laptop being confiscated by the government and Ross has to sneak in to deal with it, a scene where Shuri tries to commit suicide after Ramonda died, a scene where one of the Elders asks Okoye to consider becoming the new Queen, a scene where Riri and Shuri help Namor with their vibranium Sun, an extra scene in the scene where Val arrests Ross where Val points out that she knew that Wakanda werent behind the attack at the boat in the start of the movie, a scene where Okoye tries to steal a ship to behind Shuri, but is stopped by Ayo and the Dora, a scene where Shuri and Okoye say their goodbyes at the end of the film

Disney Never Wanted Black Panther 2 To Happen

Don’t believe the clickbait title. The producer said that when it was decision time on whether or not to make a sequel after Chadwick’s death, Disney told Marvel to make the decision of whether or not to do it. And they also said to not make the movie on their account if they didn’t want to, and to not feel like they had to.

If Disney actually didn't want it to happen it would never have happened period.

Just finished watching it last night on Disney plus and I have to say that the most frustrating part of the whole movie for me may very well be Shuri becoming Black Panther. She's never shown any sign of martial arts training and she never went through the ceremony to earn the right to become the Black Panther. There were at least three other people in that movie that were better suited to become the next black panther than her but she gets all the powers because she's royalty. Oh great another story where somebody born into wealth who didn't earn anything gets all the power. How exciting [sarcasm]

I think I said this already when I first saw it, but the writing on this was mediocre. The story as a whole felt lazy to me. Riri's appearance felt like an afterthought, and Ross' too quite frankly. Its like they had a finished script and then someone later said, well we need to introduce Riri somehow, so stick her in here. I'll watch it again at some point and see if I still feel the same after a second go.

Well we know that there was at least one finished script but then Boseman died so they had to do a massive overhaul.

Scripts tend to undergo changes when the star of the movie unexpectedly dies before filming starts.

The problem I had when I saw it is that it's pretty obvious that they already had a finished script at the time of Chadwick's unfortunate passing and instead of re-writing it entirely they just went in and changed and added a few things. There are parts that feel disconnected and like I'm watching two different films at certain points. Kind of reminds me of Revenge of the Fallen in that respect. I don't hate the film, but like you, I found it mediocre and kind of bland. My wife didn't see this in theaters with me and she wants to watch it now that it's on D+ so I'll likely be watching it again soon. Hoping I enjoy it more the second time around.

Did anyone else feel like that the whole "Okoye gets fired" storyline was maybe part of a bigger plot in the original script? As it exists now it has like zero impact on the story nor sticks for very long.

    And for the record:
Killing Angela Bassett was just about the worst mistake this franchise could make! Marvel has this amazing actress who is arguable among the top 10 of actresses that can delivery such intensity that it reshapes an entire scene and they squander her in the movie and then, like a bad Whedon script, kill her off just to give the protagonist a cheap motivation. Now they've got no Boseman and no Basset, leaving us with only Shuri to carry this series? Why would they do that??

Yes of course, but even so, it still feels like after they rewrote it they still just threw things in no reason; almost as if Riri's scenes were all filmed in reshoots after they've filmed everything else. My opinion is the MCU has really started to go downhill ever since BW, which was also mediocre at best. We'll see what Quantumania does.

Deleted scenes have been coming out that suggest that yes, Okoye’s subplot was going to be bigger. One of the Elders, the Border Tribe Elder, was going to be revealed as her uncle and he would’ve had a larger role too, being more at odds with the other Elders and the royal family. He would’ve told Okoye she needed to challenge for the throne. I agree Okoye’s subplot doesn’t really go anywhere besides leading her to take the new armor. Her scene where she gets fired is still one of the best scenes in the movie if not the MCU, though obviously it’s Angela Bassett eating it up.

This movie still needed to basically cut all the Ross, Julia Louis Dreyfus and CIA stuff.
