SHAZAM Becomes Two Movies As Dwayne Johnson's BLACK ADAM Gets His Own Solo Outing
WHAT? DC, is this necessary? Why not make Black Adam a prequel to Shazam at least?
I can´t say I am surprised given the popularity of the actor in the role
.....WB has no idea how to use DC characters. Truly at the point of throw it against the wall and see what sticks point here.
Yeah, not only is it not that surprising, but I was actually beginning to suspect they might try to do something with Black Adam, and ignore Billy/Shazam completely (at least for the time being). The Rock has been locked into this role for a very long time now, but there hasn't been anything about Billy, and I bet they are getting antsy about getting the Rock on screen. Because rushing is always the best plan...
Since Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill met up a few weeks ago, I wonder if this is also going to co-star Superman.
That's certainly a way to handle the franchise.
What I'm wondering is, will this be the "I wanna get revenge on Billy Batson" Black Adam, or the new "I wanna clear my name" Black Adam?
Interesting, but not at all surprising. Seems like an odd choice, but I'll definitely go see it. They've had him locked in for the role for too long not to do something with him in it.
I could see a prequel/origin/rise and fall story movie with Black Adam.
Oh, The Rock plays the bad guy?
i just want to say that my brother has been wanting the rock to be black adam for years, and its finally happening, and i do agree with him! his facial structure, his muscle mass, and the rock's stern expressions just scream black adam!!!! i wonder if this will be his origin story, or him trying to adapt to the modern age.....reminds me of in the comics when adam killed a company owner because he thought the workers were slaves trying to be free.
he also wants john cena to be captain marvel, because he has the muscles (again), the chiseled chin, and the possible look and attitude of innocence of a kid (i'm not 100% sure if i agree on that part, but i've been slowly drifting off though).
i'm hoping this goes well!
Black Adam hasn't been a villain for a long time. He's an anti hero.
DC is taking a huge risk with this. I respect that. Of course, when you have The Rock you have to give him his own film right?
EDIT: On second thought, it's really not that much of a risk thanks to The Rock. This is a smart move by WB
Black Adam’s Tone Will Be Very Different from Shazam’s
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Seven Bucks Production worked with Warner Bros. on the upcoming Shazam! film and is slated to co-develop the long-gestating Black Adam movie, which will star Johnson as that movie's titular villain. According to Seven Bucks President Hiram Garcia, however, Black Adam will have a significantly different tone than Shazam!.
So I'm guessing the Black Adam film will be darker and more tragic.
Will We EVER See Dwayne Johnson As Black Adam?
He's too busy. He's got Jungle Cruise, Jumanji 3, Hobbes and Shaw... it may be delayed, or even cancelled.
He's better off in a Shazam sequel maybe.
BLACK ADAM Will Reportedly Feature Appearances From Hawkman, Stargirl, And JSA Members
Adam Szytkiel (who was hired back in 2017) recently handed in a new draft which is reportedly inspired by Geoff Johns' early 2000s work.
It's said that Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman, will have a role in the movie and he'll be squaring off with the titular anti-hero. Warner Bros. is looking for an actor in the 30 - 35 range who can convincingly take the fight to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Interestingly, Justice Society of America characters Atom Smasher and Stargirl - who will soon appear in her own live-action DC Universe TV series - are also expected to appear. They're a couple in the comic books, and the studio is eyeing actors in the 20 - 29 range to play the heroes.
I like the idea of Black Adam and Hawkman, both superhumans from ancient Egypt, encountering and battling each other in the past and present. If Hawkgirl can be introduced too, that'd be cool.
Having the JSA introduced would be nice too.
Carter and Adam were friends in the past (a past incarnation for Carter). This is the story of one of Johns' great JSA arcs. This is after Black Adam joined the JSA, Captain Marvel showed up because he didn't trust Adam, and some of the heroes get sent back in time to fight Vandal Savage. This the first story that really started fleshing out Adam's character and forcing the reader see him as more than a villain. Everything anyone likes about Black Adam first comes from these issues. Highly recommended (as is this entire series, actually).
RUMOR: Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam May Adapt This New 52 Comic
Geeks Worldwide reports that Black Adam will draw mainly from 2007's Black Adam: The Dark Age, a new 52 comic book miniseries focused on the character. The six-issue Black Adam story arc saw Teth-Adam stripped of the powers granted to him by the gods. In response, he embarks on a quest to recover the those powers and to bring his wife, Isis, back from the dead.
John’s JSA run is incredible.
