Hey all. I am contemplating getting the FP trailer to make Hot Rod = Rodimus. The only Hot Rod I have is the one from the Battle in Space 2-pack. I have only seen pics of the Classics Hot Rod, and the Protector Armor set seems to match that one much better (color wise). I have been trying to get the Classics one anyway, but eBay is a little out of hand right now. I believe the BiS is an identical mold and would fit, but he seems to be a much brighter red and I don't want it to look totally stupid.

If anyone has any input for a new guy, that would be appreciated.

 

it'll fit [physically] just fine. its the same mold and no tweaks have been made to it

the only difference is paint/plastic color. the BIS Hot Rod is definitely more bright and vibrant and may look a little odd. but not entirely terrible im sure

all in all, as always, its up to you what you do!

 

the only ones for the regular that work color wise are henkei and classics. now the clear sons of cybertron version works with clear set and is a bit cheaper

 

In robot mode it should be ok. In car mode however, that's a different story. Colors are off and it doesn't look as clean as it would be with the classics version. It's still fine though. I had my bis Rodimus with my protector set until I started using my clear Rodimus from the sons of cybertron set. I'm waiting for the henkei re release. Anyhow, It just depends on your own taste. My buddy did the same thing and it looks and works fine. The red wasn't so much of an issue but the rear wing stands out a lot... the BIS Hotrod is a pretty bright yellow and the Protector armor wing extensions are orange (gold if you get Sidearm for the Henkei figure)

 

If you want a cool looking one,but not a accurate one,then you should get the clear set for him.It makes him look like the armors made of energy

Yeah but honestly, I like how there's different variations of red involved, at least in terms of the protector armour itself being used in robot mode.

However when it comes to the vehicle mode, I'm not sold on that part because it really does look strange to me.

$40 for a misb henkei is pretty damn good though.

 

I agree. If you already have a PoL going you can save on shipping. This is a good deal for a sealed figure.

FP should wait on any other colors of the Protector armor until they do one for BiS Rod. That would be great business sense.

BiS Rod is passable as a placeholder until you can land a Henkei or Classics Rod.

 

I think the set looks GREAT with the standard issue protector armor on the clear Sons of Cybertron Hot Rod.

 

The color difference shouldn't be that bad, especially if you get this Reprolabels set. I don't have Bis Hot Rod, Protector, or the sticker set, but in pictures, they look great.

Hope this helps. I only own the BIS one but the classics is my friend's. I wish I had a better place to to take my pics because there is too much lighting (sun). I did indicate which one is BIS and which one is the Classics one.

 

Thanks for the quick and helpful responses everyone. I may have to go get the Japanese version at BBTS for $40 as suggested. Problem is my dumbass will likely get two so that I have one to keep packaged. Curse this pathological new addiction!
