Why would his mask resemble his mutated face?

Yet you could easily say Nidhiki wore a Volatik in the shape of a kualsi if you wanted.

It was an effective way of getting around the limits of the sets.

Back when I was in charge of the Greg discussion topic on BZP, I read every single post there... Questions that got asked a lot kind of stick. And that was definitely an explanation he gave quite often - and even he seemed to tire of having to do so after a while.

And while "masks shaped like other masks" can sort of be annoying, it was indeed pretty smart when there were really only so many options thanks to the sets. And, sure, go a head and use a Kualsi then in a MOC and just say it's a Volitak shaped like one. Nobody's stopping you. ;)

    ----

Aaanywho - my Mistika should be arriving soon. Anybody want to take bets on how many sockets break putting them together? :lol

Probably two or three, but you might be fine with putting them together. It's when you take them apart is where the issue becomes apparent.

I still say a Volitak is the way to go because, well, he was supposed to be mutated. Plus, the only "mutated" part of the mask was technically the hose and clear lenses. The rebreather styling is inherant to the mask designs. (well, the Faxon and Zatth and Garai don't really have them) Like how Hahli's Elda had a rebreather/hose gettup despite not having anything to do with water.

Every single one because Bionicle's quality sucked shit after 2006. Hell, even 2006 had some sucky joints that cracked easily.

So much for Lego's infallible quality and strength of design. Pfft.

Usually when a socket breaks, it at least is minor enough that it can still be used as good as any other joint.

It's the major breakages that you have to deal with if you MOC a lot but if you're careful enough, you can get as much life out of the pieces as possible.

I bought five Mistika/Phantoka Toa last year from a chap on BZPower. Only the Lewa had any trouble with joints. *turns away muttering about lime green pieces*

As long as you pull directly outwards and not pull the sockets on an angle where the ball and axle piece are, they will last longer.

Unfortunately that still generally means nothing with the 2008/9 sets... They're just designed poorly. Which is why this Mistika build is gonna be interesting.

Last year I got a sealed Antroz and joints definitely broke just putting him together.

    ----

Tidbit from BrickFair that doesn't seem to be spreading for whatever reason:

According to people who went to the LEGO store in DC during the event (which anyone could do at any time, yeah, but this just means there's a whole lot of corroboration thanks to the many people there then), the employees were veeeery excited about the return of BIONICLE... The employees who would definitely have access to catalogs and other information for upcoming product. If it weren't happening, I don't know what they'd have to be happy about. ;)

I think the reason for that is that most (all?) of us have already accepted that Bionicle is coming back, so it's kinda old news. We're just waiting for actual new shit now.

I mean fuck, if this did somehow turn out to be a hoax, it'd be like the most ridiculously detailed, elaborate, widespread, and most well-thought-out hoax I've ever seen during my time on the internet.

(Though a dark part of me would actually laugh if it did turn out to be BS, lol)

So going to a comic store and finding tahu nuva in can as well as lewa mata both for $5 each was tfw highlight of my day. Both complete, and lewa even had bonus nuva armor and kongus mask.

I don't drive because cats can't operate a motor vehicle.

    Link doesn't work.

That's super cool, though I never understood the designs of the Toa. They're sort of made with real parts, sort of not? Why not just make them look like the real sets?

For some reason the first time I clicked it took me to Flickr's homepage.

I actually saw that before. It's badass.

    Works for me.

The mod uses the existing animations and player frame from the game, so I assume the limbs on the classic Toa joints didn't line up without being warped into looking odd. And since the full mod is going to have interchangeable forearms, lower legs, and feet, the joints would have to occupy the same areas.

I've already seen their model for the vented "wielding" forearm, so that can be equipped to fix the looks to some extent. I just wish most weapons didn't look terrible holstered, and that the feet weren't modified to give them the ugly Jaller/Matoro/Hewkii Inika toes.
