Plan to Breakup California Into Six States Gets Enough Signatures to be Put to Ballot : news

Honestly, I don't think this is going to turn out well. We got a guy who's clearly trying to make money to have money spearheading this campaign, and we've got "Silicon Valley" being the most tech advanced state, while "Jefferson" gets all the water.

Also, "Silicon Valley" and "Jefferson"? What kind of names are these?!

If there absolutely had to be a state split, I'd only be okay with two: Northern California and Southern California with Fresno being the divider.

I don't know about Jefferson, but Silicon Valley has always been the name for that general region of California. I guess they figure, that "valley" can be it's own state.

An evil billionaire? A plan to break up California and possibly have silicon valley all to himself? Are we sure this isn't some sort of viral marketing stunt for the next James Bond movie?

This is Lex's plan for the next Superman movie. Luthor always loves a good real estate scheme.

You'd think a part of 'Northern California' would be part of 'Silicon Valley' since some of San Francisco will be in North California. Would have thought Silicon Valley would want it. Maybe the abundance of hippies was the reason to exile them to another state.

No problems with Jefferson splitting off. Shoot, That part and southern Oregon have been wanting to join up and do that for decades.

Fresno? Nah, more like Santa Barbara, or somewhere in Napa.

He might have gotten more support for North California and South California, but it wouldn't have fit so well into his plan to divide the state's Congressional districts along party affiliations.

Besides being a moot point as it requires Congressional approval which isn't going to happen along as the Dems control at least one of the chambers, this is entirely politically motivated and we should probably point, laugh, and move along.

Santa Barbara or Napa? Not really seeing the logic there.

With Fresno, it splits California pretty much right across the middle.

I'm not upset by this and welcome it in a way. You got the biggest state in the country (population/voting wise). Most all of that states population is in three big cities and they are basically deciding how the rest of the state should be run. If you don't live there your values might be different and you have no voice. Doing it this way splits that up more and gives better representation. Maybe don't split it into 6 states, but may be three. I'd do west California and Silicon as one, North and Jefferson as one, and Central/South as the last.
