Even though people have complained about the gameplay, character designs and story (some is legit, others are just trolling),

The Sonic the Hedgehog games usually have an awesome soundtrack.

Guilty pleasure of mine is the song "Super Sonic Racing" from Sonic R. It is also available to listen in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The entire Undertale and Deltarune soundtrack was damn near perfect. Night in the Woods was another recent game who's soundtrack I adored

The soundtrack to TMNT 4: Turtles in Time on SNES. Just pure awesomeness!!! My favorite is the train level and the song Pizza Power that plays after beating the game.

The soundtracks to Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3 and 4. There is such so much emotion in the music. When I play them, I think of my 81 year old Dad and the life he had working hard labor since 14 years old to give his siblings and mom and dad a better life and still to this day is stubborn when I tell him to let me do his job but "Nah, as long as I'm breathing, I'm still working." he could be a Zombie and still working hard while asking to be paid in brains.

Soundtrack to Super Mario 64. It is not just a game. At the time, it was an experience. One that revolutionized the game industry. And one sadly would probably never happen again. The music: every level's music was perfect. I love the music in the sunken ship level. Just standing on land was so peaceful. I used to listen to it while doing my homework.

While known as a family friendly game, Big Boo' Haunted House music was just so terrifying that it can fit in in most horror movies. Fear of clowns? Stay away from the underground area...
...or mute the tv ... carnival music.
It's the best place in the park
When you're laughing in the dark.

Topics about game music pop up every once in a while, but none of them stick for some reason.
It would take too long to list all my favorites, but among my most favorites:

    Castlevania SotN
    Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross
    Shadow of the Colossus
Final Fantasy IV, VI, IX, X
    Mega Man series
Katamari series, especially the first one

I'm surprised that Monster hunter hasn't been mentioned yet. MH3U has always been my favorite when it comes to the whole game's score

Nier Automata has a fantastic soundtrack. It’s very atmospheric and adds a lot to the game.

Well for me it's the GTA music and the Red Dead games and love the God of War music. The Assassins Creed music is pretty good i think. So not much else drives me but maybe a good Need for Speed game pun intended. The mario games music is just that it's Mario nothing else can you say but it's just great.

Amen sister. The first time I turned that game on almost 30 years ago, I think I said "holy crap" out loud when I heard the title screen music. It's unlike anything I ever heard coming out of the NES's limited sound capabilities.

For that matter, just about any NES game by Sunsoft. Batman, Batman: Revenge of the Joker, Gremlins 2, Blaster Master, even Fester's Quest all have great music.

EDIT: I just realized, my reaction to the Journey to Silius music is similar to when I heard Streets of Rage for the first time. Wow, who knew the Genesis was capable of that. The Streets of Rage series (well, the first 2 anyway :D ), Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, and Shinobi 3 all deserve to be on any best-of list.

If we're talking radio music in a sandbox game the king for me is and remains Saints Row 2.

Ones I've not seen mentioned yet:
    Secret of Mana
    Suikoden II
    Final Fantasy Tactics

SoM is particularly noteworthy, as the composer actually used his own sound files, instead of the default ones most games did. In fact, look up Seiken Densetsu II: Genesis to hear what the game originally sounded like before being compressed for the SNES carts (SoM was originally going to be on the Nintendo/Sony system that eventually became the Playstation).
