I'm practically caught up with Classics/Generations/Whatever-the-heck-else and am looking for something to devote my time to now that we're in sort of a lull with those. Right now I'm seriously contemplating either G2 or Beast Wars as those were the two that I grew up through. I don't think I'm up to the sheer volume of G1 yet, though. The resources required to collect every piece, even if only the US releases, are out of reach for me at this point haha.

What one line was or is your favorite to collect right now? Which line are you eyeing as your next to delve into?

*Minus the movie stuff. While very well engineered and whatnot, I just can't get into the aesthetic, unfortunately. I -wanted- to like it. I -tried- to like it. I even own some of the movie 1 and 2 stuff but, I can't do it anymore. =\

**Animated is great too. Totally forgot to say that.

Go with what your gut says. I used to be G1 only but I took a chance on Gen Thrust. Now I have all the Gen line, some RTS and even a few Bayformers.

Obviously I would like to say G1,but in reality I know it will never happen.I will pick up a few here and there occasionally.

Right now I'm also working on filling in my Classics/Universe collection,as well as trying to get the last few Animated figures that I need.

I will give you that it's a very well engineered line and some of the figures are great as robots but, I just can't do it. The movie stuff is just so far removed from -everything else I own- that I just have no place for them. I'm not knocking them, though. They're great toys on their own, just not for me, ya know?

Plus, I'm not the biggest fan of Bumblebee and I'm kind of a completest lol.

    My preference is:

    1- MP
    2- Alternators/BT/Alternity
3- G1 (but not for all figures, just the good ones, you choose the good ones though)

Movieverse falls somewhere between going shopping with my wife at a mall on a Sunday during footbal season, and a cold day in hell. Bayverse should not be acknowledged.

Animated is one of my personal favorite lines, there's some great engineering in it and most of the figures are very cartoon accurate. The only problem is that people tend to either love or hate the aesthetic. If you like it, then I would highly recommend Animated.

For me, my "prior line resources" tend to skew towards Beast Wars (particularly the Japanese Beast Wars Neo) and Beast Machines. Classics tends to cover the traditional "bulky" Transformers well enough, and we just don't see that many "true" beastformers in the line anymore. Particularly Neo where they did some really off-the-wall alt modes like a giraffe, rabbit, and even a penguin! Plus Big Convoy remains one of the coolest "Optimus" figures we've ever gotten in this franchise. And all the bad guys were dinosaurs. And we all know Dinosaurs are kickass.

I enjoy the show more than the toyline (curse my desire for show accuracy), but Beast Machines is worth a look, but if you aren't into the movie stuff, BM might not work too well.

If you are wanting more figures similar in design/aesthetic to Classics, I'd go Cybertron. The line had a wonderful sense of diversity (something I'm really missing since the movie) where you had beasts, alien machines, and earth alt modes all in the same line. And again, aesthetically the Earth stuff flows well into Classics.

In my opinion, collect what you want to collect, not collecting just for the sake of it. You will end up with far more satisfaction that way (and take this from someone who is in the midst of pruning THOUSANDS of dollars of toys I shouldn't have bought over the past 10 years)

Maybe because he said IN THE POST that he was basically done/caught up with that line?

    GUILTY AS CHARGED!

I had a couple of drinks. Sorry.

In my defense, I did provide him a list of other items to collect.

I also edited my post, not to seem like a complete idiot. LOL.

My recommendation is Alternators/Binaltech. It's a fairly short line to collect when you don't count the repaints/retools. I was also going to recommend Animated, but I'm not sure if you carry the same exact sentiments for it that you do with the movie line in that it's too aesthetically different from the style you're aiming for. Either way, that's another relatively short line that's somewhat easy to collect. If neither of these recommendations suit you, then go with Beast Wars.

I totally agree with the Beast Wars/Machines sentiment. That was the first line that I was old enough to buy with my -own- money instead of waiting for holidays for a new Transformer haha. - That being said, I'm not collecting just to collect (well... mostly lol). I'm more trying to rebuild the collection of my youth since my family moved around a ridiculous amount when I was younger so, all of my earlier TFs are in storage in various places. I adore Classics now because I can actually go to the store again to buy characters I know and love.

Any of the AEC stuff to me is just more like Bayverse almost. Coming out of Beast Wars/Machines and RID into AEC was kind of a devolution in some respects. They were blocky just for the sake of blockiness and really killed the articulation that BW/M/RID worked so hard to advance the franchise with.

I'm really in a predicament where my next move is going to be. I was born right as the -Masters lines started so, I was getting the ActionMasters and MicroMasters as presents early on but, came into G2 old enough to really remember and get into Transformers that much more. Then Beast Wars came out and fully won me over for life. Everything that's come out since has really left me wanting in a way that I can't really place and it bugs the crap out of me. I -want- to like all of this stuff but, I -can't-. Classics has filled that void just like Masterpiece/Alternity/Alternators have in the past, thank God. lol.

You can get some nice stuff mixing MP with Alternators/BT/Aternity:

Having completed a few lines, including G1 and G2, I can tell you that Binaltechs/Alternators is the one that really stuck with me. Both modes are plain awesome, and if you have the space, they fit in very well with the Masterpiece line imho.

Oh, I love Animated too. The movie stuff just looks nothing like Transformers to me. Atleast Animated holds the same general look and feel; it's just cartoonified. lol.

Wait, do you already have MP/Alt/Alternity?

If so, I recommend then collecting your childhood toys. I got back into collecting because of my childhood toys. I did get away from G1 rather quickly and migrated to MP/Alt/Alternity and Classics, but I would like to think 1 day I would go back to G1. I probably won't try to complete G1 though as it was a limited amount of figures that gave me that true nostalgia.

Hmm... That's a very tempting display of awesome to recreate... - I have Hound and Grimlock but, that's as far as it goes for the bots in that picture.

MP Prime is my priority first and foremost, though.
