TFP Shockwave for character, but DOTM Shockwave for his robot design.

This looks like a question for the Transformers General Discussion board :)

    Cheers

Edit: Also, tie between TFA/TFP Shockwave for me. Loved TFP's rivalry with Starscream and TFA's design and sneakery.

Agree, this probably applies for those who overlap as Bayformers and Prime fans.

As a character it has to be IDW Shockwave as he is by far the most developed and simultaneously sympathetic and abhorrent version of the character.

Design-wise, its got to be Animated Shockwave. Excellent design that translated into one of the best figures to date.

This. His comic self is what drew me to the character all those years ago.

For modern incarnations, I like Animated's 'spy' persona, Prime's no-nonsense approach, and the movie's assassin role.
BTW- I LOATHE the direction the recent comics took him. I normally don't read them, but I did read Dark Cybertron. Ugh. Why did he need a sympathetic back story??? Personally, I liked it that he was different, and the comics took that away.

Dark Cybertron is really not the story to read to get an accurate judgement of Shockwave's back-story.

I'm surprised so many people are saying Prime. He was an almost parody version of his G1 persona with his constant, constant, constant use of "logic".

    IDW Shockwave.

On a note of Shockwave's best voice actor... no one really seems to cut it for me. Shockwave's voice is mystery to me. I constantly wonder if he should speak in a monotone, which would be dreadfully boring―the very opposite of what he should be―or have some inflection in his voice. Does he use advanced vocabulary or simple words? Does he sound deep? The possibilities are endless.

Your absolutely right, I find it SO hard to imagine what he sounds like in IDW. I've tried Burton, Blum, NOTHING WORKS!

G1 Comic Shockwave was a huge heavy hitter, used effectively in the comics for good storytelling, and basically wiped the floor with everyone in a way that came off as believable within the story. That's been the high watermark for the character, I think, and one that's influenced a lot of his incarnations since.

Animated Shockwave, however, accomplished much the same thing, but in a completely different way.

G1 comic Shockwave. Him on issue #5's cover is still my favorite cover, and one of the few G1 issues I actively sought out (and found last year :D ).

G1 Marvel's Shockwave was a badass for sure, but I don't like that he was a badass at the detriment of Megatron's character. Megatron was like the opposite of Shockwave in the Marvel books. I didn't like that.

G1 Sunbow's is definitely my favorite. That's what I grew up with, so that's who the character is to me. I love how loyal he was to Megatron, even after an absence of four million years. He lived to serve him and did it well. Corey Burton's work on the character is as iconic as his amazing visual design.
