    DOTM.

The mangled, spiky rusted truck was awesome. The robot was bulky and mean-looking. Definatly better than the lamer Megatrons like G1 or Prime.

Animated Megatron is clearly and easily the best and by a substantial margin. It's the most perfect distillation of everything Megatron to date. I like him best as a disembodied head.

Battlestars Super Megatron is a great Megatron, everyone can see this.

Prime Megatron is another strong contender, and a fresh take on the character.

ROTF Megatron is by far the best Movie Megatron.

I want to like WFC Megatron, but the truth is I don't care for any of the WFC decepticon designs. It turned out a pretty good toy though.

RID + Unicron Trilogy Megatrons weren't really Megatron at all. This isn't a comment on the quality of the designs. Some of them would've alright as original decepticons. Energon makes a decent Galvatron. But as Megatron, they all fail.

They've all been good really, but the Transmetal & Primes ones are probably my favorite. They also have my favorite voices attached to them which may or may not have influences my choice hah.

Animated-top knotch, helicopter mode probably one of the best I've seen for TFs

DotM-fun gas tank trucker, nice cowl to pull off the movie look

Cybertron-that look of the body gives off the feel of Unicronian armor. The Galvatron repaint is killer.

G1. And any future versions that are obviously based on that design, like Animated and TFP. I also really like the G2 tank version.

I more prefer the Megatrons that stick to his bald head design like G1. Nothing wrong with the Megatrons in RiD, and the Unicron Trilogy but I don't like them more for not being based tightly around Megatron's G1 design. Maybe I wouldn't feel this way if G1, Beast Wars and Animated didn't base their Megatrons from G1

I liked the G1 robot mode design the best, probably b/c it was what I grew up with.
What I didn't like about it at all was that he transformed into a HANDHELD-weapon... I didn't have problem with the mass-shifting or whatever you call it. But in my opinion
having someone else hold him was akin to giving up power (to aim, to shoot, etc.),
something I can't imagine Megatron ever doing. Besides, it never seemed to give
the Decepticons any tactical advantage. I would much rather have him transform
into a vehicle of some kind, prob. a tank.

I'm reworking my Classics Megs into having a tank-mode.

The Beast Hunters Sharkticon Megatron(not joking). Megatron seems like the kind of guy that puts a giant chomping mouth on the front of his already imposing alt mode.

What do you mean, there's only one Megatron. And he turns into a pistol. Nothing yells DEATH better than a pistol.

Especially a small, underpowered gun. Go Megatron, pick the least intimidating gun you can find! And nothing says powerful, individual that doesn't take crap from anyone than turning into something that needs someone else to use him.

Best Megatron design IMFO is Prime Megs. It hits the balance of menacing & hulking, yet also agile and fierce. If we extend to Galvatrons, I'd give the 2nd place to G1 Galvatron. Who does what the gun Megatron failed to do (Be intimidating and not require someone to hold him) better than Megs did.

G1 Megatron is so boss that he doesn't even bother to waste energy moving around in altmode, he has a bunch of warriors to carry him around.

Prime megsy looks like a futuristic, flying soap dish designed for sadomasochist people.

Except when he did at least hover in alt-mode. Because of reasons.

Can't help but agree with this one. I really don't like the movie/prime take on cybertronian altmodes.

    ... and ?

That fits. He sought to clean up Cybertron! And sadomasochism is the Decepticon Creed.

    My top three:

    1) Beast Wars (Transmetal I and II)

    2) Animated

    3) War For Cybertron or Prime

Honorable mentions include Car Robots and the Unicron Trilogy.
