Hey guys I was thinking what's the best G1 Styled Soundwave I can get? I'm looking for good articulation that either come with Lazerbeak and or Ravage.
I was gonna say Music Label until you mentioned wanting Laserbeak and/or Ravage. Which knocks him out of contention since the MP3 playback functionality makes him non-compatible with the cassette figures. So... I'd say either look into getting an Encore Soundwave or waiting for Hasbro's SDCC Soundwave which is going to be released with Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ravage and Ratbat. There's also Titanium Soundwave who comes with a Laserbeak, but... its an oddly proportioned figure and poor representation of the character.
If you want something for your universe/classics collection its gotta be ML Soundwave. I love him and I display him with the ML Rumble and Frenzy headphones, Universe Ravage and Real Gear Booster as a substitute for Laserbeak. They look great together imo.
Sounds like you are after one of the reissue style figures. Classics Soundwave that was a Toys R Us exclusive might be your best bet. I'm going for that one and ML Soundwave to put in my collection.
How is the articulation on the classics soundwave? Like I really want to pose my figures.. that's what I want to do.
Eh...well, the classics Soundwave is a reissue of G1 Soundwave...he can turn his head, bend his knees forward, bend at the elbow and turn his arms all the way around. If you want a lot of articulation, stay away from G1...which means staying away from the best Soundwave.
I use universe soundwave. Because the colors look extreme next to classics megatron. http://www.seibertron.com/images/toys/files/24/r_soundwave019.jpg Otherwise just stick to g1. And the SDCC reissue is coming up.
*cough*hasbro..* cough *...toy...*cough*...shop.com *cough*. Two weeks after convention. Sorry about that. I apparently need a ricola.
For articulation, yeah it's Music Label. No Ravage or Lazorbeak, but it's the best G1ish Soundwave out there until a Classics or MP version is ever made. It's also, to me, a better fit when standing it next to other Classics figures than the Titanium one is (the Titanium's a poorly designed figure).
I'd say go with classics reissue of G1 Soundwave. Music Lable Soundwave has better leg articulation, but he's smaller than classics/universe Starscream. If you're realy that into articulation, get an exacto knife and shave of the plastic at the back of the classics Soundwave knee, which hinders his knee joint.
I'd recommend the Toys R Us Classics Soundwave. A timeless robot mode that's almost as tall and articulated as the Masterpiece toys. It helps he's bundled with two of his cassette minions.
I know a lot of people have actually been happy with cybertron soundwave for this role. Its the only one where you can actually have lazerbeak perch on the arm or his wings. I don't display mine with the classics. But I do think its a nice figure. And as with more of the classics figures it is more of a updated modern soundwave look than a slavish "g1 now with articulation"
I'm admittedly biased towards the Walkman altmode, but that's certainly something Soundwave would not be using in this day and age. Ditto for the cassette mode for his minions. Then again, they used the cassette player mode for the Toys R Us Classics reissue, so... (shrugs)
