I had to look up Terradive. He looks unique…but pretty spindly. Here’s an OLD…and kinda awkward, lol…emgo video. Are the loose hips an issue with most of the copies? That being said, I can’t think of many really good deluxe jet/plane TFs. I’ll have to dig through my stuff.

Qualifying choice (among figures I've handled): thrilling 30 armada starscream. Accomplishes being a space jet with landing gear, accomplishes having a robot mode with okay articulation, and accomplishes elegant accessory storage. Second choice would be the gen foc deluxe, iirc that one had slightly more articulation. Third choice would be prime first edition starscream.

Un-qualifying fringe choice: kingdom airazor. Arm darts are functionally null rays, the transformation is very jetformer flavored, and it even ger-walks.

Hmm, deluxe plane TFs I like...

IMO, the Combiner wars Aerialbot limbs ain't bad. I think Fireflight/Slingshot is a little better in jet mode, and Air Raid & Skydive make better robots.

Universe/RTS Cyclonus is still good, and only a little less 'clean' than the newer Kingdom mold.

Generations 'flying wing' Scourge - that one cleans up so nicely in aircraft mode.

Generations IDW Stealth Bomber Magatron is decent, but a bit fiddly and parts-formery IMO, and really needed tobe bigger to flesh it out more.

If you like Bay movie stuff, the DOTM deluxe Starscream/Thundercracker mold is pretty impressive for its size.

One of my longtime favorite jet TFs is the basic/scout class (doomsayers will argue that's deluxe-size today.:)  ) Energon Treadshot. Just such a simple, compact little guy. Treadshot (2005) - Autobot - www.tfu.info

The aerialbots are pretty good considering all their limitations, they also make the best combiner limbs.

I'd go with one of the recent Decepticon Targetmasters. Especially the Takara Legends versions. I think Misfire is my favorite, but the other two are excellent also. Topspin is also pretty good. Unite warriors Strafe is also an interesting one. But futuristic jets need to be your thing of course.

yep. I in fact prefer it, can't stand how puffy and smooth the Kingdom mold is in both modes (and the head sculpt is just terrible)
oh geez, I TOTALLY forgot about him... he might beat out Terrradive/Spacecase for me, he was really clean in both modes and just a freaking brilliant Earthmode for a character that never had one. My only gripe was he'd be so much better if he was Voyager/Leader scaled, since his alt mode should be massive. I miss that era when the designs were creative and clever and the quality was still near the peak.

gotta say, (while I still like them!) they make pretty terrible planes IMO, especially since their arms don't even really hide, mostly just hang... and the "leg/feet blocks" are pretty egregious compared to the Classics seeker mold.

I do like Air Raid the best, I think his swing wings helped hide the arms a little better.

Off the beaten path, but one of my favorites is Prime Soundwave. I love the creepy, silent and long armed Sound wave. Legs aren't the best, but a cool design overall.

I gotta second Generations -not TR- Scourge.
    • Seige standard articulation, plus deep knees and wrists
    • Fun accessories
    • Big wings
    • Coherent alt mode
    • Fun reinvention of g1 design
    • Both 5mm and C-clip compatible

TC and Thrust both have gorgeous plastic IMHO. Pains me that I was never able to complete that set; missed RJ and SW.

Also pains me that I missed TR Misfire.

I still have 3 Generations Scourge. Every time I handle them again, I marvel at the clean alt-mode, the weapon storage, and (as mentioned above) the reinvention/adaptation to an earth-mode. It also has unfolding landing gear! I dare you not to swish and swoosh when you have it in plane mode.

I never had Terradive, so I can’t compare it. It always looked interesting, though. I do have Breakaway and Thrust. Those are pretty up there too. T30 Skyfire would be too, if they had figured out a way to make his limbs seem more part of the fuselage in alt-mode, instead of just being folded-up undercarriage… not even folded-up, more like swung. Similarly, ER came close, except for the chest part breaking up the jet silhouette and lacking landing gear. The Classics mold has landing gear, but unrealistic for a fighter jet. It also has that chest part and feet. I know it’s like the G1 figures, but I’m judging at how well they pull off their alt-mode.
I don’t count Cybertronian jets in this list. Yes, those TR Targetmaster are great, but they’re more spaceships to me.

Great to see Terradive mold getting so much love, that's the first one that sprang to mind, Triggerhappy from Titans Return too and Generations Scourge.

Agreed, nice to see love for the Dreadwing mold, Overcast is my favourite of them
