Not speaking in terms of sales.

What console do you remember having the best launch, in terms of overwhelming games available for you to indulge yourself in the new technology.

Mine is split between the PS1 and the Sega Genesis. I remember flipping a coin on deciding whether to pick up Twisted Metal 1 or Warhawk in addition to Battle Arena Toshinden and Jump Flash. Then there was Ridge Racer. Too many games for me to Decide on for a Launch. But it was a good problem to have.

But then when Sega came out with the Genesis (back when systems came packed with games) I was a HUGE Altered Beast fan, and then the system launched with Space Harrier and After Burner, I believe. There was a little Dungeon Crawler game, and Herzog Zwie. I couldn't wait to get a hold of every game at launch, despite them just being arcade ports.

Saturn would come in third, despite it's lackluster life, because it came out with Panzer Dragoon and that was a must-have for me, as well as the Stock Racing game, whos name fails me right now, but I played it until mu Saturn Bled.

PlayStation 1. I got so very, very much joy out of Ridge Racer and Tekken. The others I missed launch windows on as being a kid you just can't afford that shit day one.

Probably PS1 for me. I got so many games that I enjoyed. More so than the PS2, which would be second in line. I remember getting NFL Gameday, NHL Faceoff, Mortal Kombat 3, Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Toshinden all within a few weeks of each other. At the time, they just blew me away. It was really an amazing step up from the SNES.

I wasn't huge into Resistance when it came out, (though now I love it) so PS3 didn't do it for me, and if Oblivion had been a launch for 360 like originally intended, I would have been all over that.

Azurik didn't do it for me on Original Xbox's launch, hehe, and I don't even remember PS2's launch... wait correction.. Dark Cloud was Flippin Awesome.

You know, I forgot one... I might be wrong on some of these games launch, but SNES, with Super Mario world, was excellent, as was that god game, hell I forget the name, but it just came out on VC

Damn I forgot about MK3 and Face off... Yeah, it has to be PS1 for me. I hated having to choose between Twisted Metal and Warhawk. Went with TM in the end for Multiplayer.

The Wii launch is the only time I've ever got a console on its release. That said, I have to choose it, but I probably would anyway. For most of 2006 I figured I probably wouldn't be getting anymore new systems, then a couple months before November, Nintendo let out a downpour of news on the Wii that I couldn't stop reading. In the end, I just couldn't help but get in line for the launch; I chose a good place to do it too as I only had to wait in the freezing cold for an hour (rather than all night like the campers over at Future Shop; the line there went all away around the store as well).

heheh, i remember camping. I didn't even think to mention Pre-launch excitement, but that should definitely be a part of it. I drove 150 miles to get My ps1 at launch. (Back home from College)

Sega Dreamcast. My friend Chad skipped school on 9.9.99 to wait in line to get the first one in our neighbourhood.

    Loser.

I'm going to have to say the Dreamcast.
Although I had many consoles, I bought the PS1 and Saturn on launch day, the Dreamcast was the first time I could afford to buy a console on launch day.

My wife and I went up for the midnight launch at EB.
There were about a hundred or so people in front of us -in the mall.
    Without air conditioning.

She tried to deal with the body odor as long as she could, but I ended up taking her home.
When I came back there were about 200 people in front of me. :(

I got the DC, two controllers, two VMUs, Sonic Adventure, NFL2K, and the absolutely perfect Soul Caliber.

Sonic Adventure was great -I see it's flaws now but in 1999 the flaws were forgiveable. (I had no idea that Sega would spend 10 years designing Sonic games around the flaws.)
NFL2K was so far ahead of any other sports game it was unreal.

But Soul Caliber -man Soul Caliber was gaming Nirvana.
I put it in the console about 4 in the morning.
The graphics were not only better than the arcade, they were better than anything I had ever seen.
My wife got up for work at 7 and I was still playing it.
She got home from work at 5:30 and I was still playing it.

I was unlocking art cards and costumes and changing the order the characters appeared in the opening cinema. Awesome!

    Actraiser!

    Dreamcast.
bought Sonic Adventure and Hydro Thunder on day 1... within the week I got Power Stone and Soul Calibur...and the next month I got an arcade stick and Marvel vs Capcom.

such a great time with that system. nothing like it before or since.

Playstation. I had the day off work on launch day, so I was straight into town for when the stores opened; I got the first one sold from that store, along with Toshinden and WipEout.

PS2: had it pre-ordered like 9 months in advance from Gamestop, My games got to me a week early (dynasty warriors 3, Armored core, and something else) It was delivered to me a 11:30AM launch day so while everyone else was standing in line or hitting up ebay i was at home playing.

The only console I got remotely close to launch was the PS3. My brother in law spent the night camping out in front of Best Buy in some chilly weather. I on the other hand scored one from Best Buy online the day after his camping trip.

Otherwise, I tend to wait until well after launch to pick up a system.

It's Safe to say that Sega knew how to accompany their launches with good games.
