Add me to the Diabolis Rex fan club. Such an excellent figure, as all the Master Made City Bots are. It may be smaller than what you'd expect a city bot to be but it's a really good size to actually play around with. IMG_6916 by Kevin Gorman, on Flickr IMG_6922 by Kevin Gorman, on Flickr Base mode is really well done too. IMG_6909 by Kevin Gorman, on Flickr Just one word of warning though. If you buy it, you'll have all the other Master Made bots bought in no time!
Maybe I was to harsh on the TR Tryp. I just thought it looked to "blocky" but I'm re-reading the IDW "monstrosity" and he does fit that description better. If not a little lightly colored.
Surprised no one has mentioned planet x’s Apocalypse, I’ve heard good things about it but not my cup of tea, personally.
"Best 3P Trypticon" is kind of like "best 3P Piranacon"----it's a pretty short list, so not much to discuss. (And Apocalypse and Diabolus are SO different, there's not much to compare between them----it's not like the zillion very similar Omega Supremes out there all fighting to be "the one true MP G1 version")
I too am stuck trying to find a Trypticon I like. Armageddon is nice design wise, but he’s just so... boring to look at. All one colour, and his alt mode are a bit pants. If I got him, I would have to add some green a purple paint to him to break up the monotony, and that requires far more time and effort that I feel I should have to put into a toy that expensive. Diabolus Rex WOULD be the perfect Trypticon for my legends collection... IF he were twice the size. His design, his colours, his articulation, his alt modes are all sublime, he’s just tragically too small if someone were to upscale him, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. That leaves TR Trippy as a sort of compromise that satisfies nobody. Atm I’m using MakeToys Pandinus as my counterpart to metroplex, but since my collection is mostly IDW, I have IF lord scorpion staring at him on another shelf, knowing that there can only be one
I don't hate it, but I haven't liked it enough to buy it. Personally, I see it as "having gone the wrong way" from the G1---it's like the best aspects were minimized/removed, and the parts I liked least, are emphasized. It's a "new G1 Trypticon"----but somehow not at all what I wanted.
And I’m confused by that What aspects do feel were removed but were necessary? Have you handled it? You might be surprised by how it plays in hand.
Ditto. Got the master made tryppy and metroplex, trypticon needs no adjustments but swapped out the SD metroplex head head for the tiny one. Works okay, the hands on MP are still pretty big and the arms a bit stubby, but trypticon looks better than any of the other versions imo, but most can’t handle the size aspect. I personally find it a great solution to not wanting to dedicate the space to two large citybots.
TR is fine for me. Straighten the legs and not have him hunched over is close enough for me to match him to Generations Metroplex. Sill not happy?, Hunch TR Trypticon over, bend his legs, stretch Maketoys Metrotitan Metroplex feet and ankles down. good to go.
he really is a great bot that has a presence and holds a pose well. trypticon is an 80s bot that i always wanted an updated version of. he is also one of the reasons i even got back into collecting. i like everything about him and for 50 bucks how could you ever ask for more?
