Yeah, back when I did HO-scale dioramas, I used to just use dirt and sand from outside. No real reason to buy the super-fine crap when the regular deal looks just as realistic.

...and, yeah, that mockup is awesome. The potential for this diorama just increased a hundredfold...

I think that this would be a great idea. if you could get in scale with G1 Prime, or maybe better yet, the new THS Convoy that would so rock man!!

    Hey KA,

Looks like you're off to a good start. Sorry for the belated response on the $$ required to do some of my train layout stuff in the past. Truth be told, and many here have already suggested it, you can get a lot of the materials directly from your own backyard (dirt, sand, rocks, tree bark, twigs, etc.). The three things I've gone to hobby/craft shops for is the puffy green stuff used to make bushes and leaves on trees, plaster impregnated cloth, and rubber molds for casting rocks and cliffs. I don't know if you're familiar with plaster cloth, but it works great for covering mounds of newspaper wads to form terrain and mountains (it's not too expensive either), though, you could just use any porous fabric dipped in plaster of paris.

I love the work you've done so far on the Ark; keep the pictures coming! :rock  Before long, you're going to turn into the guy from Close Encounters of the Third Kind that built the mountain in his house! :sly2:
