Kingdom Galvatron is a great CHUG figure, and the best mainline Galvatron figure ever released. But there are a few things about him that bugged me:
1. His head is too long and too cone-shaped.
2. The bottom of his helmet seems to sit too low and be too square.
3. The mouth sculpt looks off. It isn’t that it’s too neutral/stoic, but that it’s too thin, too … pressed. He looks like he’s holding something back and keeping a “stiff upper lip”. Very un-Galvatron.
4. While I generally like silver paint, I find his face to be a bit too shiny and bright. The chrome-iness also seems to wash-out the recesses of the sculpt itself.
5. I didn’t like the choice of black for the tank-tread housings
6. After I removed the awful battle damage, I still felt like he wasn’t finished. While I didn’t hate his purple color, the more I looked at it the more it seemed … off. Just too “grape” for me, and that’s not how I see Galvatron in my mind’s eye.

So I went to work:
1. I filed down his egg-head to reduce the overall length and create a more conventional and proportional helmet/head shape.
2. I re-sculpted the bottom of the helmet so the cheek-guards/lower rim slope up and away. I think this adds some dynamism, too.
3. I sculpted a slightly deeper, thicker, and wider mouth. I did so mostly by sculpting in a shadowed upper lip, and drawing-out the corners.
4. Painted the face with a grayer shade of silver, to take away the sheen and to better match the rest of the bot’s color palate. I also used darker hues to achieve depth and to bring out the sculpt (and add to his sinister look)
5. Painted the tank-tread housings a silvery-grey. Also painted his “belt-buckle” red.
6. Took him (mostly) apart and gave him a new paint job. The result (to my eye) is closer to his ‘86 movie animation color. I also made the cannon barrel a bit more of an opaque orange.


Still not satisfied, so I did the following:
7. I decided to make the cannon a bit more opaque with a metallic orange color over my original paint job.
8. Went with a lighter grey for the face.
9. Added the ZX upgrade kit (longer feet and taller back spire). I painted the longer spire to match, and I painted the upgraded feet (and stock “toes”) the same flat black.
10. Removed his stock fists and replaced them with semi-articulated hands from a KO Warbotron junker figure.

This came out great! Nice paint work & details to make this much better than the original release. Awesome! Still working on some details on mine & some mods. Got the blue mostly done, but still have some detail paint work to add & the mods to wrap it up.....soon, hopefully!

What is the likelihood of the paint chipping during transformation? I really want to do this but i worry about damaging the paint

That's what I expected him to look. Very nice. Now only his feet still suck. But if he looked like that, right out of the box, I would have bought him. I generally agree with all you said, but that is too much wrong in this figure for me to buy.

But cool some people are able to get the figure right. He looks so much better now.

Wow. That shade of purple looks really good on this mold. It's a color scheme I really hope Hasbro releases this figure in.

 

this looks awesome... This is the way he should of came out of the box. That and better screen accurate feet! and there was no reason they couldn't of given him articulated hands.

 

UPDATE:
I decided to make the cannon a bit more opaque with a metallic orange color over my original paint job. Applied clear coat and transformed to alt-mode:
I put a Reprolabel Decepticon symbol on him, but I don’t like the way it looks. I’m ordering water slide decals, which I think will look better.
