If anyone is a fan of Peter Cullen, this is a very short bio on his career of voicing characters like Optimus Prime and Eeyore, from Winnie the Pooh. Website: Behind Optimus Prime (And Eeyore), One Man's Signature Voice : NPR
That made my heart all warm and fuzzy. Never realized how much Peter sounds like Optimus without all the effects.
My question is why do the voice actors like Peter not get the same treatment as the onscreen wastes of time like "the guy who was Tessa's boyfriend" in attending the Premieres? Peter SHOULD have been in Hong Kong... seeing him in front of that big Optimus statue in front of the Central skyline would have been EPIC! Optimus' image is being used for ALL the marketing of this movie. Peter IS the movie-verse Optimus. His voice is being used in an awful lot of the marketing too... where's the love and respect for the voice actors? Personally I find them and their role in making this movie work more fascinating that the onscreen actors. Has Hugo's comments about how "easy" voicing Megatron was really pushed the respect for voice actors that far down?
I wish Peter Cullen was my dad. I'd have him speak to me in his Optimus voice Every.Single.Day. I have found that in America-Land that an on screen actor becomes a heralded voice actor but rarely is it ever the other way around. If you are a voice actor first many don't care and that is superiorly very sad. It is fans like us who rally around them and appreciate the vocal talent they truly are.
Well one nice piece of information, is Peter's voice for Optimus is actually inspired from his older brother who was in the marines.
Agreed, a great share about someone who clearly and humbly enjoys his work -- and sharing it with fans like us. Given the chance at various conventions, I'd rather meet / greet the o.g. cats like Cullen (and Stan Bush) than any of the onscreen talent. Rock on, Peter!
You don't know how lucky you are to be in the right country to at least have that opportunity ... I can only dream of getting to a 'con one day let alone meeting Peter or Frank ...
The guy's a sweetheart. I chased him down for a quick picture back at Botcon 2007 and he loves the fans. And the voice has only gotten better with age.
