looks like Lorraine Bobbit has been visiting art galleries lately.. Beatle 'penises' defaced at Liverpool gallery | News | NME.COM
I have a feeling it not so much someone who hates the Beatles but more someone that thought the artwork was porn.
I'm still a bit puzzled they were going to auction off a painting of dicks to help a children's charity. Seems weird.
Yesterday, beatles weiner art was still okay, Now it won't make cash for chari-tay Oh it was worth more, yesterday Suddenly, it's not quite the piece it used to be, Doesn't look like a mod rocker's wee, Oh it was altered, suddenly Why, they defaced the art Noone knows, they didn't say They just smeared up the paint of those units, yesterday Yesterday, it was probably worth some mon-ay Now they're smudged and flattened oils and clay Supposedly art, yesterday Why they tried to cop a feel Were they fans, was this foul play There should have been more guards Watching over, yesterday Yesterday, beatles weiner art was still okay, Now it won't make cash for chari-tay Oh it was worth more, yesterday
Some other Beatles songs to use in this thread: Come Together The End Happiness is a Warm Gun Long, Long, Long You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Act Naturally A Taste of Honey It Won't Be Long You Really Got a Hold on Me It's All Too Much
Exactly what I was thinking. Probably some over-protective or overzealous mother or church goer. Or both. Still doesn't give you the right to try and destroy a valuable piece of art because *YOU* personally find it offensive. I'm sure there's folks out there that find Michelangelo's "David" offensive, but you don't see anyone stupid enough to travel to that museum in Italy(that is where the piece is right?) and try to take a hammer to "David's" junk. Some stupid people in this world, and shit like this really ticks me off. Keep your own beliefs and what not to yourself. Don't try and force it on everyone else. Not really. An adult collector was going to end up buying it. The piece will never be seen by children, unless the person that would have bought it has children of their own or in their family that might see it.
"...rendered in still-soft oil paint..." It wasn't a flat painting, it was a malleable material, and evidently it was within arm's reach of anyone visiting the museum. I think EVERYBODY who went to the exhibition probably touched it wondering if it was hard, soft, the shape, etc, LIKE PEOPLE DO to anything with a texture! But from what I've read recently about art museum security, I'm not terribly surprised. --Moony
