I know that beast machines is considered season 4 of beast wars if not a continuation of the show. however, watching the dvds again reminds me of talk from when beast machines was just coming online. what i recall is that season 4 was in the works but hasbro pulled the plug and wanted to go for beast machines. i also recall that apparently the writers crammed season 3 with as much story and events as they could that were originally planned for season 4. i've never heard any official word on this but i'm curious as to what the other old timers know or remember. (old timer being someone that was surfing transformers back in the BW/BM days.) One thing that keeps these thoughts going are the mutants. weren't they supposed to be something new for the supposed season 4? on a side note. who remembers visiting the old sitepowerup boards from this site and beastmachines2.com? i'm going through my computer archives of old transformer images i collected from those days and it really brings back a lot of history and memories. who else remembers all the teaser images mainframe was slowly putting out for BM? how about the endless rumors that almost all proved to be false? how about when fox kids blundered up the lineup? i believe we were supposed to see episode 2 or 3 or season 2 and instead they showed episode 2 or 3 from season 1! hahaa! almost brings a tear to my eye. sniff. don't we love our nostalgia? hehe
BM was when I barely started looking up TF's online. I used to visit Beastmachines2.com and unicron.com on a daily basis
I don't understand why people still say that BM isn't a continuation of Beast Wars. This is the first I head of a BW season4, but it might be possible.
I look at them as a 2 part series much like Armada, Energon and Cybertron form the Unicron trilogy except the beast series were better
Fuzzy memory time! How "true" any of this is completely debatable, from things I vaguely recall to fan speculation, to mixed up statements and whatnot. Dinobot would slowly recover his memory of his prior self. Thrust, Dirge, and Ramjet were going to be the big bads at the end of the season 3 and be semi-recurring characters for season 4, culminating in some G1 characters being woken up, Megatron gaining control of the Nemesis, etc. Rhinox was going to get a new body. I used to post quite a bit on bigbot.com back in the day.
Plus a plotline about G1 Megatron's spark trying to gain control of BW Megatron's body after he stole it in Master Blaster.
they're all such juicy stories but NAY SIR those glory days are gone and done. they were great while they lasted, and we'll always have that summer at the lake but, we have to move on. see other people. the love we have will never compare to any other love.
Wow, just wow. I really think season 4 would of been an amazing thing had they done it. I still very much enjoyed Beast Machines and brilliant animation, i just disliked the excessive changes in several characters personalities.
I think someone's having a foggy memory... If I recall, if the show had continued with Bob & Larry, it would have been called Beast Hunters, and been the Maximals chasing Megatron around the galaxy... (that was the original premise before it became Beast Machines). Not 100% positive if it was Bob & Larry's.... Chris EDIT: Here's an old foxkids promo image.. http://usuarios.lycos.es/toxicoyeah2/bm/BeastHunters.jpg
i was kind of thinking they could have woken up at least one of the G1 bots. Probably would have made for some interesting nail biting action. that promo image of BM looks very familiar. I think I have something like it somewhere in my archives. hell I even have a set of pictures taken at toyfair that showed off all the BM toys. ah the good old days of having to hunt around from site to site looking for every scrap of info you could find. now we're spoiled with a site or two that has people to do that for you.
I was always hoping they'd wake up Bumblebee and give him a bee beast mode (for some rivalry with Waspinator) for the series. And then when the Maximals left to return home Bumblebee would voluntarily be changed back to his normal body, have his memories of the Beast Wars erased and he'd go into stasis lock in the Ark.
I want to know where the heck Tarantulus and the Tri-Predicus council came from, if not desendants of the Decepticons? And why were the Vok so interested in Earth in the first place? Did they even know the G1 TF's were there? How about a definitive answer to who the Vok even are? The big question they seemed to be setting up was the Dinobot spark vs programing thing, would he have been able to re-emerge from Megatrons reformating. Oh and why can't any TF series seem to survive past 3 seasons? Beast Wars had so much going for it and they still pulled the plug! I believe it's Unicron's doing.
Oh man, all those stories sound awesome. I wish they'd revisit some of those concepts one day. I love BM, but I would have definitely taken those stories over BM any day, though they could have kept some concepts/designs for it.
in the second to last episode megatron mentions tarantulas being "unicron's spawn". it's likely him and the tripredacus council wanted to destroy both sides so unicron may live on. the vok are never really explained. earth just seemed to be some sort of project/experiment to them. they mentioned it being dangerous to let it go with the damage the transformers had done. one of the writers once said that in the beginning they didn't know if it was going to be earth or not so they kept it open. that's hard to swallow since they used earth creatures. apparently they had no idea about the previous show and at some point they started listening to fans talk about g1 and decided to start pushing the nostalgia button. so the show's direction was always changing. if it wasn't for our influence it may just have been an entirely different show. just like all the next ones. I recall at one point hasbro didn't like so much continuity because the target groups wouldn't know what was going on from year to year. that's why power rangers eventually dropped trying to stay with some sort of canon or origin and just renewed itself every year. from a story standpoint it sucks but from a toy selling standpoint, it works the best. kids who watched it from the beginning might not keep watching it three years later. so it's pointless to keep the old story alive. damn, i just answered my own question...
I would not consider BM to be a continuation or "season 4" of BW...for a few huge but sad facts...BM took alot of genuine characters...inverted them and blew them out a airlock... Megatron..goes from being the best portrayed Megatron character in depth of depravity and daring to date....then in BM he gets displayed as the manic/crazed with removing the organic element from himself...where in BW he embraced and excelled with the power the dragon form that he was converted into gave him...the scene when he emerges from the lava expresses it all.... Optimal Optimus...the only TF to take on the Nemesis along with Tigerhawk...in BM when rattrap is hooked to tankor's head and gets some memories it shows the same TF running like a little headless chicken away from tank drones... who then toss the canisters with the "virus" that reverts them to their normal beast modes....SMASH...in a instant you have flushed 3 seasons of character building into the toilet.... I did like most of the story BM laid out...the development of tankor/rhinox and vector sigma.... I just refuse to look at it as a continuation of BW as it destroyed so much of the BW story and characters in my opinion....plus Night scream? UGH...
While Beast Machines did change the characters we knew and loved from Beast Wars, you have to realize that we went from: - Maximals stuck on prehistoric Earth and easily kicking the Predacons over and over for three seasons just waiting for a chance to get back home ...to... - Maximals "wake up" on Cybertron, no memory what happened, they are "gassed" and can no longer transform. They have no idea who is behind everything. They don't know where everyone is. They find random graveyards everywhere full of Transformers. Optimus Primal believes that "The Oracle" is speaking to him and guiding him to change Cybertron in to techno-organic stuff and let's it consume him believing he is a Chosen Messiah, Megatron has realized that his "beast form" is a curse and wants to purge himself of it and will stop at nothing to eradicate the "beast within", Rhinox, as Tankor, sees the "beast" as a technological setback and that it must be eradicated for Transformers to evolve to the next level, etc. etc. Is it rough around the edges? Yes. But where as Beast Wars showed the best of our heroes, Beast Machines showed us the worst, taking all their "dark insides" and letting them shine as they went from being in full control to having absolutely no control at all. There was never a "Beast Wars Season 4" planned. By the time Season 3 went in to production, it was noted that it would be the last, and Hasbro pushed for things like Tigerhawk to be in the show to boost sales as it was a "last wave" type item.
I think the phrase "Unicrons Spawn" was meant to be used more as an insult than a possible origin. Like calling some kid you don't like Hitlers nephew. It would be taken offensively by most. As for the origin of the Vok, I think I read that a Season 4 would have clarified on it. However, Forward and DiTillio had different ideas on what those origins should be. Forwards idea was that the Vok were the highest evolutionary level of humaniods and Nexus 1 (The Earth project) was to be used as a way to guide humans to this level. DiTillio's idea I liked much more. His idea was that the Vok were the highly evolved descendants of the purified Swarm, from the G2 comics. Nexus 1 was their way of atoning for destroying the human race (I think). I believe they were trying to prevent it. I like to consider my Transtech fanfiction a Season 4 of sorts.
