Even if it's not set in stone that the series is going to end at 12 issues that's really not reassuring.

I want to hold out hope that something got lost in translation if Josh's word is anything to go by, but if it's only 12 issues... not really much of an ongoing, then.

I would assume if he doesn't know then nothing is official. Because of the people making it don't know it ends in 12 how do they layout their story?

He said he asked and that there’s no end issue set in stone yet... isn’t that the definition of what an ongoing is? Maybe he just worded it poorly.

I don't think they can look too far ahead these days with series. Too many variables in this day and age to commit to a series beyond 12 issues. It just depends how well these issues sell.

It lasted #13 issues. Not saying much.

We're only on issue #2. Perhaps the first 12 issues features the first main arc, with the possibility of more to come.

Seems they are selling out fast at brick-and-mortar stores very quickly. Mine gets a pretty decent stock with a few of the 1:10 variants, which are sold out before close on Wednesday, with the rest of the regular covers done by Friday or Sunday at the latest. It does appear the demand is there.

At least that's reassuring. Granted the run just started, so there will be a bit of readership dropoff as the comic moves forward (such is the nature of monthly comic runs) but if that holds true there might just be hope yet.

The 12 issue did get me worried for a moment but if the physical issues are indeed selling out in many physical stores that brings out hope that the ongoing will be just that. An ongoing as opposed to it being a mini series.

True, but it also wasn't billed as an ongoing.

Wasn't the main ongoing transformers series also said to be 12 issues originally, and then had more announced as time went on? Maybe it's the same situation with this one.

It makes sense that any "ongoing" would still have points where the publisher reserved the right to cancel. Similar to how shows are renewed for seasons/episode counts.

So, at the time, it's possible IDW wanted at least 12 issues so the crew has a rough idea how much room they have to tell an arc.

From there, they're told if they get more issues...and they can start a new ark.

I also wonder if the ongoing does well enough if IDW wouldn't want to do spin-offs. There's potential if you consider how Airazor and Tigatron went off on their own. Or the potential for a comic set around the other side pf the planet where a bunch of new characters from pods crashed.

My local comic book store told me it was a limited 12 issue series. But I had not heard of that anywhere but there. I posted about a while back but no one replied. I really hope it extends. I love the series so far, artwork is alright (personally like more “realistic” style) but the rate it’s going 12 issues will not tell much of a story

I want you all to know that I would pay good money for a Tigatron spinoff because Tigatron is the best.

A Tigatron/Airazor spinoff that lead in to Tigerhawk would be an interesting limited series.

In any other fandom that would be a typo, but I guess it works here

I just hope the BW ongoing will keep on going not only for BW fans but to also show Hasbro that there's a market for making comics for people who grew up with any non G1 era TF series. I mean we may get a rebooted Armada comic series in the future.

As far as the trade paperback news goes, I'm usually only in for those if I either A) missed the original issue releases or B) there are a ton of extra features, concept art, etc. Since I'm already subscribed for the series duration at my local shop, well there's just something about having those fresh individual issues that can't be topped for me.

Agreed on the TPBs. I like the art on Cover B so I'm getting just those and going to make a row for them on my comics wall display.
