Very well, I’ll admit to not knowing and being wrong on that part, but I’ll still hold to my other statement.

 

I hate to be that girl but just because there's all 3 of those things doesn't mean anything at the end of the day, really. It definitely doesn't mean she'll be a good character, and given Skold now it also doesn't mean they were being 100% honest with "the only thing Nyx shares in common with Bat Primal and Onyx Primal is their beast mode."

Not saying she's destined to be a bad one either, I'm just saying.

That said I especially like the middle depiction of her.

Feels like they've been hyping this up for a decade now with no actual product to show for it.
At this point its gonna turn out like Duke Nukem Forever

Just because their designs take inspiration or have certain similarities to previous characters doesn't mean there's some nefarious scheme here or anything. Also pretty sure IDW like to add original characters to the cast to bulk it up but also add some variety.

No offence, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything but this is such a non issue, over a character from a comic that's not even out yet.

 

I think this is a bit more than just taking inspiration from another existing character, and I don't think there IS a nefarious scheme. They do like to add original characters but their track record of making good original characters isn't the best. Can a character really be considered 'original' when it's just a different colored copy of another?

We've been over this before, there's people being blindly positive about this and some being negative, it's just that one is more acceptable than the other when they're both equally as valid.

 

The what's the issue then? IDW has its problems but I'm pretty sure some of the characters and portrayals are liked. Hence why we see characters like Drift, Rung, Windblade etc turn up in other toylines and media.

I'm sorry have you met Ratchet, Ironhide, Nemesis, the seekers, Prowl, Bluestreak, RID Scourge, RID skybyte, God Neptune etc.

Not exactly uncommon for transformers to take inspiration from or use other character designs as a basis for different characters.

 

The reactions are interesting, to say the least! xD

I go into it a tiny bit in a little interview in the back of issue 1 but as far as the designs go, they're absolutely done in a spirit of "homage." I cant speak for the precise reason why these two new fembots were added, other than they have their own character arcs planned/in mind and to add something new and fresh, but as for their designs they're [obviously] meant to resemble Bat Optimus Primal and Snapper. And thats all on me. I had some character breakdowns and what their alt modes were but the rest was on me and I thought it'd be fun to, in Nyx's case, make use of a design that never REALLY got any play in major BW media and for Skold to do it in honor of what happened to be my first Beast Wars toy Snapper! [and a bit of a Strika homage in there, as well] Think of her as the Tigatron to Snapper's Cheetor. They share the same basic design skeleton. Its not that weird. And she's definitely not inserted in there to replace Snapper. Should the books go on long enough maybe he'll show up! Who knows.

But I wanted their designs to FEEL as genuinely "Beast Wars" as I could so why not base them on some actual Beast Wars designs! That was my thinking, anyway

For my part, I am thrilled to add more canon characters to the body-type array started by the classic characters! Woo hoo!

 

And I absolutely, and likely selfishly, designed them this way so that kitbashes and customs would be a bit more easier to pull off. Cuz i'm greedy like that xD

I really appreciate the insider explanation on all this. It definitely helps to cool passions when people are confused and angry with eachother. I hope Hasbro does you a solid and puts your designs into toy form (their obvious retools too, of course).

Given how epic snapping turtles are IRL if they ever made a figure of this design I'd buy it yesterday.
