It's like how people on this forum are like "God the Bay movies are shit who could possibly like them?!" as we enter our thirteenth year of Bayverse toys on shelves and no real end in sight. Hell, it happens *every* time. "Who could possibly like this!?" they asked about Botbots, which is now getting a new animated series. "Who could possibly like this?!" they asked about Beast Wars, which not only revived the brand on shelves but developed a whole new generation of fans. I've learned to stop conflating my personal tastes with kids and the general population, which has a calming effect when I see stuff on shelves I don't like selling even though I don't like it. Meanwhile there's still a large portion of this forum still stuck in the Mr. Skinner phase.... Didn't the comic end not too long after that? Not saying that is why it ended, but at least if they did something like that (compare it to Buffy activating every potential Slayer on the planet) then at least it blew up the lore before closing the door and getting rebooted.
It did end around 20 issues later due to how low sales had gotten (which is the reason they relaunched RID/MTMTE to begin with) so the IDW comics ended and rebooted a bit ahead of schedule. Around a story arc or two. As for Lost Light I would have to agree that it's written did take a nosedive after MTMTE ended, although I am excited for this book, as it's from the writer of the Transformers/Ghostbusters crossover and I fairly enjoyed that. Plus it was the first time in a long time Optimus made a joke, in a comic no less.
This is going to be the first work of his I've ever read. I've heard good things about the Transformers/Ghostbusters crossover (now including the snippets posted above) so I'm going to try and stay optimistic.
Oh thank God. BW managed to have that kind of humor slipped in from time to time. So it's a good sign for the ongoing.
At the risk of starting up the whole "but why didn't they use a pre-existing character?" debate again, just gonna link this here... And also, our first glimpse at the comic proper (with dialogue) from the same Twitter thread:
Although I'd be remiss to not note that I'd love to see my beloved Snapper as well, Skold here looks incredible. A perfect color scheme.
Neither Nyx nor Skold seem like very Beast Warsy names to me but I like this design. Head strikes me as a bit too Ironfist though. Still, all for new characters.
Mono-syllabic Beast Wars names are pretty rare, especially ones without much "animal reference" to them.
Sköld is a surname of Swedish origin. It directly translates to the English word "shield". Fitting for a turtle. Though not a very Transformers name unless there is going to be a plot point about human culture having been absorbed by Cybertron society since the Great War. Did Nyx and Skold come on-line on a 'current' or Post-GW Earth?
I don't think it's any weirder than a Transformer being named after a music genre or an insect from Earth.
It's almost like certain programs, media, and toylines are targeted towards specific demographics that contribute to the brand's overall success, but are not entertainment that is designed for all fans to enjoy.
So why are English names any better than Swedish for Cybertronian / pre-Earth Transformers? I think there's always some suspension of disbelief and "universal translating" involved.
Ha! Get fucked, Snapper! I can't wait for female Not!Manterror (Womanterror?), female Not!Wolfang, female Not!Spittor, and female Not!Razorbeast.
