Forgive me if a thread like this already exists (if it does I can't find it), but it feels like a thread exclusively for the discussion of the possible forthcoming Beast Wars live action movie is needed, be it for no other reason as to stop the (loosely toy based at the best of times) Beast Era (Wars/Machines/etc.) Appreciation Thread 'on topic'.

So let me summaries what we know so far.

So let track this development in this thread, what do you think of this news and any further news? Say this movie does get made what would you like to see/not to see? How do you think this should/will work out?

Personally I am both excited by and terrified by the prospect of my beloved Beast Wars getting a live action big screen outing. I'd love it to be good but I'm very worried it will not be given the franchise's history and the 'talent' involved. But let me be uncharacteristically positive for a moment.

I think this COULD work. The original TV series flawed(isn't everything) but all in all highly thought of by fans... so take the good bits, the well developed characters, creative concepts and clever story telling used during the 3 seasons plus Beast Machines(a little bit less so on the later) and refine this into a new story that makes nods/references to and maintains the spirt of the original show but at the same time becomes its own thing. I don't mind if its a reboot, although that would probably be best, provided it doesn't "throw the baby out with the bath water".

I think it's interesting that Optimus Primal and apparently even Cheetor were possibly gonna show up in TLK or possibly earlier, perhaps its for the best they didn't show up in those films, but the designs were kinda neat.

Though in the case of Primal I'm not 100% Sure what his deal was. Was he gonna have a robot mode separate from his ape mode? Or was he gonna be a gorilla with a Prime-like head that turns into something else..?

Maybe but I think it's fair to assume given the context, either way.

I prefer in animation because we don't have much action-oriented animated movies in these days.

We don't, but it's a fair assumption considering it's being developed within the same franchise. Which will most likely mean the involvement of humans in the story... however you are right it's not stated implicitly.

I agree... I'd love a high budget animated movie, we've seen these can be a success (Into The Spider-verse) however I'm skeptical we'll get that lucky.

I mean, I don't know if you need to shut it down. We can see if it catches on. If not, then it dies and falls into the ether. If it does, then we have a more focused conversation instead of two simultaneous conversations about Beast Wars and Bumblebee 2 that largely pretend the other conversation isn't happening.

The remake of the Lion King is still erroneously referred to as the "live action Lion King", despite being fully CGI, so there's that.

ITSV had a fairly small budget for big screen CGI animation, (less than half the cost of Lion King or any Pixar movie the past decade) but it worked because of it's stylized animation and wit. The right studio can do wonders with the animation and even ITSV's $90 million USD budget is certainly attainable, especially if they lay off the celebrity stunt casting that only soccer moms seem to care about. My only worry is that Jimmy isn't up to the task of replicating the BW humor and characterization, no matter which story they finally agree to present or it's character roster. The banter is where BW shined so bright, especially when paired with the comic timing of Scott and David. This really needs that more than it needs to retell the TV show. Good writing is cheaper than Bayhem anyway. :)

A animated movie cost less than a live-action.

    I did not know that.

I did not know that, however would have assumed it was lower in budget. I guess what I meant was high production values rather than budget, a slick professional job. ITSV may not have cost the earth but it looked amazing... as well as being a well put together movie (which is even more important) which is where this movie (animated or not) starts too look sketchy... the talent isn't there... yet.

Anyway for now we don't know if it's an animated movie.... I'm assuming it's not.

It could be filmed at real locations. If it has humans, they'd be extras playing cavemen.

I'm really curious where they take this!
Like @Booster Gold, I too hope they go with an original story. I'd be fine with a few returning characters but I know if they were to attempt to redo the original show (condensed into a 2 hour movie) it would most likely end up being disappointing. even if they went with the tv series cast, the chances of them being voiced by the OG voice actors are pretty slim, for instance.

I'd be fine with a modern day setting and humans being involved. I think there's heaps of interesting ways they can go about it. Take some inspiration from the wacky Japanese shows too.

All I want is a decent story (something on par with Bumblebee at least), animals turning into robots and some nice fight scenes.

What I'm concerned about personally is that it ends up just as Transformers, but with Animals.

Beast Wars was a followup to transformers, but it had it's own identity. It has it's own DNA and style. If they make a Beast Wars movie, it doesn't need to be like the show exactly, but if it doesn't feel different and distinct, I don't see the point.

Personally, I'd love this as a Shrekformers movie. Think of all of the Beast Wars Transformers you could make inspired by Shrek. There's Donkey, Puss in Boots, the dragon, the blind mice, weed rats, Rumplestiltskin's geese, the wolf, the three little pigs, and the three bears.

I would like a live action follow up to Bumblebee and an animated Beast Wars movie ( although live action BW would be completely new).

My main concern would be getting general audiences to accept an Optimus Primal when to many people there is only Optimus Prime.
Same with having a different Megatron.

As somebody that didnt see beast wars when it originally came out, i would be ok with them leaving out those characters.... at least if it is live action.
