You're projecting what you want to see here. Put the heads side by side, they are only the same in the very abstract. Much like Prowl and Optimus Primal, as was just being discussed a few pages back. There are tons of transformers with helmets with a center ridge. Look at Alternators Skids, just as a simple example. Is that Ironhide too?

He was never Ironhide. I can see the idea working though, and I understand why you might like it. I think a lot of us wouldn't mind seeing the "Beast Wars as a straight continuation of G1 with Optimus Prime and Megatron" storyline fleshed out someday. Maybe Ironhide as Armordillo would be something to consider.

Well, the Japanese Armordillo repaint, Bump, is ironhide's colors:

And (IMO) looks more like Ironhide than the official Beast Wars Ironhide.

I always was under the impression that Armordillo was originally intended to be Ironhide, or at least a renamed Ironhide similar to how T-Wrecks is hinted at being Grimlock despite the different name.

I remember years ago their was a fan theory that Armordillo was Ironhide, like you said, simply renamed.

I could see Hasbro having planned certain guys to carry G1 names (same character or not) and then changing plans once the series took off.

There are a *ton* of G1 names when you really start looking at non-show characters.

Not to mention they managed to have *two* separate characters named Silverbolt at one point.

What I find funny is that there were other naming options for the Magnaboss eagle that would tie in with G1 and hadn't been used yet. Air Raid, Sky Dive, Cloudburst, Eagle Eye, Strafe, and Sky Fall for example.

Though I suppose Silverbolt is really the only major aerial authority the Autobots have other than Jetfire, but Jetfire just doesn't seem to fit an eagle as much as Silverbolt would.

Wasn't he *first* though? Kinda like Prowl the lion before PrOwl.

Also, I picked up the Deluxe 10th Anny Primal in a trade. How was this guy never repainted as Optimus Minor? The transformation is damn near identical. And the look is very TM2.

I was under the impression that the figure wasn't particularly well received either as part of BW 10th or Cybertron so I doubt there were many calls for more versions of him.

Speaking of which, who thinks that Hasbro might try to repaint the upcoming Titans Return Apeface as a BW 20th Optimus Primal? If it ends up a triple changer like the G1 figure, it could even be an Optimal Optimus. It would be an interesting parallel to the history of the BW 10th/Cybertron figure.

Come to think of it, Mindwipe and Skullcruncher could be made to homage the old Bat-Primal and Gator-Megatron basics. But who would be crazy enough to try that?

Eh. Their loss. If it means in 6 months or so I'll be able to snag a Predacus for half price then more power to'em.

I don't get people who are mad about the lack of Beast Wars representation, but then get mad whenever Hasbro does something that isn't a carbon copy of something that they did before.

Optimus Primal had like 5 different bodies from bat, to gorilla, to TM gorilla, to G1 gorilla, to techno-organic gorilla in the span of five years. The 10th Anny Cybertron Prime is a great homage that allows the character to change and evolve alongside other classic characters.

Is this thread going to go into the same meltdown we saw with Predacus when the inevitable Mindwipe/Skullcruncher repaints come out as Primal/Megs?

AT this stage, I'll view it a blessing if Hasbro does ANYTHING for Beast Wars 20th Anniversary.

Especially considering we're already seeing TWO Platinum sets tied to the 86 movie in addition to half the current known Titans Return roster.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a meltdown. Bring on those repaints though!! I'd love 'em to death.

Also I think that Primal's pretty great too. Not perfect, but nice and a lot of fun. I have four different versions of it and I love them all. Apelinq's the best one though. Those colors are just perfect on that mold and I would own like 5 of him if I had the room for doubles.

I for one am sick of repaints. :)  I mean one or two is fine, but last year was almost nothing but repaints/slight retools. The dead end mold, for example, has been done five freakin' times!

That's also just because CW necessitated more toys period. We'll probably see the same relative amount of original molds as we always have (9 new molds for 5 deluxe waves is pretty average, even in like, 2010), just less repaints because they don't need 4 new characters every wave.

I'm sorry, beasts or not, nothing about TR/W has gotten me excited. :(  I didn't mean to bum you guys out too.

Skullcruncher looks plenty sick for an updated G1 Skullcruncher, honestly.

Considering all the hints from the comics, I'm thinking beasts will end up being the third part of the Wars Trilogy, especially since CW lasted about a year. If TR follows that patern, we'll definitely be seeing the third part, which seems to be beasts, in 2017.

That wouldn't really matter if hypothetically the third line is Beasts. The precedent set is that the toys will be made in their own heavily homagey way and then the comics duplicate that. So you would be getting your Beast guys based on the original designs and completely bare from any one specific IDW artist's influence.

Not that it seems like Generations lines are your thing in the first place, since you don't seem to be into updates. And that's fine.
