We had a bear "loose" here last year, someone even made a twitter account for it!

This is exactly what happened with our bear. It wandered around for a few days out away from people and didn't do much of anything, but once it got "close enough" the authorities tranquilized it and released it back into the wild.

Maybe being from NC doesn't help,but we have loose bears around here(the last sighting was 30 min. for me.
