What's everyone think of my collection? It's supposed to be in scale.

Anyone got that pic of the ss 2007 autobots all lined up? I think they got the scale pretty close with them.

    Nice collection! any biger pictures?

Both Optimus and Ratchet are way to small, I have been working on a custom ratchet to have then all in scale (based on the hftd NEST Ratchet)

On a good note, Mixmaster and Lockdown work quite well with the Studio Series

Thanks for starting this thread. I am sure most fans of the movies will appreciate the discussion on scale whether it be robot mode, vehicle mode or both.
With that being said. I don't understand why the two new decepticons revealed today have to be triple changers. Bear with me please. As a franchise who main purpose is to sell toy or at least started out as to sell toys, why does hasbro allow such designs to get approved. As designers of these toys they will have an extremely difficult time doing justice to all three modes. Most likely they will only focus on one alt mode like Drift from AOE but this will just end up disappointing the fans. A robot that has a car alt mode but also has a tiny jet/helicopter cockpit in chest just disregards the weight and dimensions of a car versus a jet/helicopter (and this isn't a cybertronian based vehicle it is an earth based vehicle). So the debate with these two characters could end up being should we give preference to the land vehicle or the aerial vehicle when it comes to interpreting the robot's size and dimensions.
If we go with the car then they out be be within bumblebee's size and weight, give or take a few feet and a few lbs. If we go with the jet/helicopter then they will need to be at the very least Ironhide/Hound size if not as big as Prime himself. This just makes it difficult for fans who keep their collection somewhat scale based.
    Damn you HASBROOOOOOOOO!

And what makes you think Hasbro themselves didn't feel the same way, but simply didn't have enough control to demand they be redesigned? Not everything is Hasbro's fault.

For my 2007 lineup, I'm currently using:

    Autobots:

    Studio Series Optimus Prime

    Studio Series Jazz

    Studio Series Ratchet

    Studio Series Bumblebee

MTB-05 Ironhide (thinks it scales better both in robot and vehicle mode, although he is slightly shorter than Ratchet)

    Decepticons

2007 Voyager Megs and Blackout (Will aquire the SS Blackout later, depending on whether we'll be getting a SS 2007 Megatron. As of now the Voyager Blackout scales quite well with the 2007 Megatron)

    Deluxe Bonecrusher,

    ROTF Voyager Starscream

    DOTM Barricade

You are probably right in that assumption. Still I am sure considering the Transformers brand is Hasbro's property they ought to have some say in the matter. Simply assuming that they may not have had "enough control to demand they be redesigned" is still an assumption and we (or at least myself) don't know the real dynamics of the design and approval process . So criticising Hasbro is well within reason, because they are failing at communicating with the designers and the 'big boss' who approves these designs, because they will eventually make the toys and then the fans give them grief for scale, design etc. Throughout the movie franchise we can argue how failure to communicate resulted in poor choices, be it continuity errors, change in aesthetics, scale discrepancies, etc.

My ending remark was based on a TV (american dad or family guy, probably family guy, not 100% sure) show dialogue and meant to be in jest.

It's been a while since I've taken a family portrait so this was fun!

If we're purely talking about figures that are in "scale" and roughly fit the sizes as they appear on-screen my Autobot and Decepticon line-ups are as follows:

    • APS-01U Optimus Prime
    • Custom DOTM Bumblebee with HTFD Bee legs
    • Sidearm Sideswipe
    • Alien Attack Firage
    20180713_201100(0)[1].jpg
    _______________________
    • HFTD Leader Starscream
    • Custom DOTM Barricade with '07 Barricade legs
    • MTB Soundwave
    • ROTF Deluxe Sideways
    • DOTM Crankcase (I threw him in this picture but really this deluxe is way too small)
    • HFTD Legends Ravage
    20180713_200803[1].jpg

    _______________________

For fun, I added these 3 to my collection after I checked The Transformers Scale Project and noticed they were all roughly 1/87th scale. Plus they're all fly boys so they look good together.
    • ROTF Mindwipe
    • DOTM Skyhammer
    • DOTM Air Raid
    20180713_200015[1].jpg
    _______________________
I added a bonus picture of my entire Autobot collection. It was putting this one together that I realized how terrible the DOTM Voyager Ironhide toy was. At the time I loved him and he was my definitive Ironhide but now I've noticed his forearms are cracked and his chest has never stayed tabbed together. All the more reason I wish Studio Series stuck with the old size classes.

    20180713_201430[1].jpg

At some point I'll pick up the Dream Factory Wreckers since they're oversized and fit the scale better. We really need some better movie Con figures though.

Feels right to me. This is where the vehicles should be (credit to Red Goblin for the scale chart/renders):

Following this "true" scale, these bots would be this size:
While "on screen" scale looks like this (again, credit to Red Goblin):

The toys above are a happy median, about where I'd expect everything to be. A Pave Low is a lot bigger than the not-Abrams, but at the same time Blackout doesn't need to be literally twice Brawl's height.

As silly as it is, I wouldn't mind if a Transformers line took scale that seriously and made a car bot like Barricade that size. If Hasbro or a 3rd party could make a legends size figure that had better articulation I think it would be really cool so see how the robots would stack up if based solely on vehicle mode.

Then again, if the movies themselves do no follow that same scale I'd default to that because I'm dumb and only want my bots to look like they do on screen. :D

The best scale to have every bot in the right scale would be 1:48..
that way even the bigger bots could fit on the shelf (like Jetfire and Optimus and Mackatron with their trailers)

That said, I am happy with the 1:39 scale for the Studio Series (well Stinger,Bee and Jazz at least) and hope they continue this for bots like the Twins, Soundwave,Dino, Drift, Croshairs,Sideswipe,Sideways, and so on..

I have hope in my spark that one of the 3rd parties sees the light and the scale debacle and takes on Ratchet, Brawl, Blackout and Optimus to also scale them into 1:39..
maybe even rework Optimus his feet so they go to the side in between his legs instead of laying there on top of the truck like they do now...
And give Ratchet articolated wrists and have the hands fold in for alt-mode (and a better paintjob)

    That would be awesome..

Oh! and we need a Sentinel in scale to!

These are all the bots and vehicles converted to the 1:39 scale.
It is in Metric sorry for that.
Read it as: Name, vehicle and vehicle size- robot size (meters) - vehicle in 1:39 - Robot in 1:39

Here are my vehicles in scale at the moment:
DOTM Voyager ironhide, ROTF Voyager Mixmaster,
SS Jazz, Bumblebee and Stinger with AOE Lockdown (deluxe)
