Don't these guys realize that changing the voice of Prime and Megs is like having someone other than James Earl Jones do the voice of Darth Vader?

I'm actually glad he's politely but firmly tellling the overeacting fans to 'cool it' regarding the voice actors. Those people should understand that they *are not talking for every Transformers fans*. I've been a big fan ever since I started watching Beast Wars, but I went back to rediscover G1 afterward. I think that puts me in a position to not have rose-tinted glasses and I frankly do not think that Welker and Cullen are the best voices they could have in a modern movie. For one, I'd much prefer Nimoy as Megatron, as his performance in the old movie blew that annoying rapsy voice Welker used for him. And Cullen is good, but not that hot either IMO.

The vocal fans keep saying that new voices will ruin the movie for them and they won't watch it. Well maybe I should say that the old voices *might* ruin the movie for me because I think they'd sound terrible for a live-action movie. In short, stop talking for the fandom as a whole and stop assuming your rose-tinted tastes are the best because *they just are*.

Really, the arrogance of some fans can be astounding at times...

I've said this before about the VA's and I'll say it again. I'd like Cullen and Welker (well, mostly Cullen... Welker's sounds like a schmuck... or Fred or Scooby...). Personally, it won't kill this movie to not have Cullen and Welker. I'd like it, but it won't stop me from seeing it. That being said, I just hope that the VA's are good choices... like maybe some of the more top notch anime voice actors that typically work for ADV, USA MANGA CORPS, Urban Vision and various other big anime companies. And no, if they don't go with Cullen... they had better not use Chalk.

As far as his communication, yeah, I think it's great that he's at least mildly giving us the time of day. But I have to agree wtih others that have stated that it seems that he gets what we're saying, but doesn't really give a shit. However, I think we fans need to realize that that's his purogative anyways. We aren't being paid to turn our favorite franchise into and he is.

In reality we just don't know enough about anything to do with the movie before we start with the "ZOMG" crap. Let's just watch and wait. Bitch if you go to the movie in 2007 and it sucks. Like the Island sucked, but I realize that's my objective opinion... and no I'm not a "Bay hater" as I like Armaggedon and both Bad Boys movies, I just think his last couple have been shitty and am hoping he gets out of his apparent slump.

Nice to hear things are at least still moving forward. I agree on the whole voice thing. Let it just be. The fact that he acknowledged us fanboys and our demand for Cullen and Welker is awesome in itself. Really think about it for a minute. I'm all for Cullen/Welker 110%, But if they don't "fit" for the live action HOLLYWOOD movie, Fine. Will most of us, including myself be disappointed? Oh HELLS yeah!! I just hope they at least let those guys try out for the roles. Give everyone a fair shot. If they don't make the cut, Hell, give them cool cameos as humans maybe?!

As one from within the fandom, I've seen a vocal segment of the fandom misrepresent us all as selfish, ignorant and mannerless IDIOTS. Unfortunately, the loudest voice is the one heard by those at the top, while the moderate opinions are drowned out by the "ZOMG" crowd.

Let Bay do what he wants - I want some new hotness to have a chance to shine. Constantly recycling the same leader characters (with the same voices) has gotten some people too attached to things running one way, and any change is perceived as a threat to that little nirvana they've sequestered themselves into.

Instead of thinking of Cullen and Welker as the "nod to the fans" that people are clamoring for, why not instead focus on the fact that we're getting Prime, Megatron, and several other recognizeable characters (albeit in new body styles) to feel nostalgic about?

I dunno... why do fans have to 'cool it'? They're making a muli-million dollar movie about one of our favorite, if not our most favorite, television show/toyline/comic every. We have every right to continue to talk about how we want cullen and welker as the voices.

I would also like to know the most religious of fans too... maybe the botcon guys?

I have no problem with any of this, and I would have to consider myself a big pain in the ass fanboy. The robot designs should be updated and improved upon. Changes are necessary. I like the idea of the TF's having crashed here and lain dormant for millions of years, but it's hardly an essential, so if it's changed, so be it. I'm all for professionals taking a whack at trying to make it better. Granted, I don't see where using Cullen and Welker to VO Prime and Megs would present a problem for Bay's vision; unless he's planning on doing the robot dialogue in binary, no voice should be any more or less realistic and any other voice. But beyond that, I see this as good news. Especially the military being on board. Both for scenes fighting Decepticons (and maybe the Autobots early on), but also for 'being' Decepticons. Without their support, it would be hard for this movie to be anything but lame.

On a side note, I saw 'The Island' this past weekend. I'm impressed. I'm not saying that I'm going to buy the DVD and put it on the top rack of my DVD stand with 'The Usual Suspects', 'The Godfather 1 & 2', 'Animal House' and several others; but it was well done, very exciting, good dialogue and the action was extremely intense - too intense to buy with humans (man and woman cling to a giant letter that falls fifty stories to the ground, and they walk away with minor bruises), but it would work perfectly for giant robots.

Ultimately, I'm glad Bay is doing this movie. It'll be over-the-top, but for Transformers, that's a good thing.

Me too, just in terms of it now getting to the point of being pretty irritating. Tell him once, twice, but after you've made the twentieth post telling him the same thing, it's more likely to turn the guy off than persuade him.

He's seen, he knows how the majority feel, now he wants to talk about something else while he makes a decision.

The fricking military are involved. When one half or your characters are liable to have military alt modes, that's HUGE.

You know, after seeing everything that's going on, I think alot of us have realized that they're going to make the movie they want. I'm sure they will take fan input and maybe throw some stuff in there to at least acknowledge us, but for the most part, they're going to do what they want and what will make them money.

Without going into a rant about coporate America, they're doing this to make money, and by them catering to us fanboys, they're not going to make it. They're going to make this as appealing to the masses as possible. Pretty much what commercialism and corporate America loves to do. Just look at Hip-Hop. Not all of it is about mindless dribble, money, killing each other, and degrading women. However, if that's what sells, they'll use it.

Then again, TF's are already commercial, it's just that it never has really been put out there like this movie will do. Is it a bad thing? Not necessarily. Look at the X-Men and Spider-Man movies. They're not perfect, to many, and fantastic to more than those diehards. Many hard core fans may go into a coniption over the changes, but they are still great movies that do the source material justice.

We can at least hope that these guys have enough respect for the fandom and the source material that they will give it a proper treatment.

Would I love to hear Cullen and Welker as Prime and Megs? More than anything. Would I love to see Soundwave as a tapedeck? Of course. Honestly though, that would look like $hit in a live action movie and be pretty silly.

Like I said, they're going to make a movie they want, with ideas that make sense to them.

Let's hope it makes sense to everyone else. Fanboys and non-fanboys alike.

If they don't get Peter Cullen hopefully they'll get Neil Kaplan. Neil does an awsome Optimus and a great Cullenesque version.

I could go either way on Cullen Welker. I don't care if we get them as long as whoever does the voices does a phenomenal job. I want good voices, but I am not picky about who.

G1 was campy, do we really want people who only did these characters as Campy. Seriously? That is my big fear of the original voice actors. That was the 80's this is a new millenium.

He said action for the third act. He (most likely) knows the setting, place, charecters, dialouge and ultimate conclusion for the battle. But what kind of fight he fills it up with is up to him.

On one of the many LOTR bits, one of the writers said they knew that they could write 'They fight', and Peter Jackson could make a 20 minute scene out of it. I'm pretty sure thats the same case here.

I'm personally hoping that it will take place on a large military installation that turns into Trypticon, now THAT would be awesome to see on the big screen (will probably be reserved for TF2 though).

And no original voice actors? Hope so. Could see Cullen revising his role, but Welker? :stick:  NOT fit for a frigging big budget action movie, IMO.

The thing is, it's been nearly two decades since Cullen and Welker voiced these characters. Are they still up to it? Most of all, more than giving work to these actors, I want the best possible voices for the characters.

As for the third act, I want to see a Transformer, either Autobot or Decepticon, pick up a car and strike his opponent with it! Choreograph the rest of the fight however you want, just include that little bit! Thanks and happy moviemaking!

    Oh well.

Welker's Megatron isn't very good anyway.

Heheh, that's awesome that the military's involved.

What would be even more awesome is if Optimus Prime (the human) played a speaking military role in the film. Granted, I know it's not gonna happen, but still...

Right here is where I see Bay missing the big picture:

"Looking back at the history of Transformers, remember there has been tons of change and improvements over the years."

I'm sorry, but Armada onward was NOT and improvement. If he's using the changes in the TFs over the last 20 years to justify this movie being non-G1 based, then he's screwing up. I know G1 is not the be all and end all of TFs, but it is what got it all started. And no series since ( even BW ) has captured the attention G1 did.

I still can't believe fans actually think Cullen and Welker will voice the leaders in the movie. Reality check, that ain't gonna happen. It may please the fans, but - and Bay is right about this - it just connects too much with the old G1 days.

I know fans don't like to hear it, but generation 1 was 20 years ago. That's a long time. Besides, Cullen and Welker's voice talents won't really attract non-TF fans to go see the movie. The truth is, if there are no big actors (voice actors included), the movie won't be able to pull in a big audience.

Bottomline is Cullen and Welker will not be Optimus or Megatron, Soundwave will not be a tape-deck and the movie will probably be further from G1 than everyone thinks. Which I believe is a good thing.

CULLEN, AND WELKER ALL THE WAY!!! (and other original voice actors)
