I found the first half to be decent. The tone was dark and Lockdown was badass. The humour was tolerable. The movie degenerated into a mess during the second half. The humour got dorkier. All the human actors started over-acting. The story was all over the place, and was 30 minutes too long. Now I can't even confidently say that this movie is better than the 3rd....
I think the Hong Kong battle approached the same level of needless running around as the desert sequence at the end of ROTF. Though at least the end of AOE didn't turn into some sort of obstacle course to show how Sam has 'matured' (the inclusion of his parents in that desert scene was really unnecessary). At least Cade had a decent 'I'm willing to leave this guy in charge of my daughter, while I try to help Optimus Prime' premise.
agreed & that's really been the issue with TF2-4 in my opinion. the 1st 1/2s are interesting & exciting and it's like "ok where's this gonna go?" & then it all gets lost in trying to set up the massive finale.
Yeah seen it again (for the 3rd time) in the cinema yesterday and agree the first half was great.. wait, no.. PERFECT but then something happened and it all went to shit! The plot was all over the place... I still enjoyed it though! But just knowing it could have been easily better gets to me a little.
I thought it was the other way around until his friend/coworker died. The humor pretty much stopped there
This. While they were being chased in the car it kept cutting back to Lucas and he officially hit Leo-tier useless comic relief. I literally said out loud "ok holy hell this guy is as bad as the dude in TF2 and he needs to die RIGHT NOW." And then he did. I was so shocked I had no idea what happened
The first half of the movie had me convinced it was going to be better then it was. But it just spiraled out of control very quickly after the raid on KSI. After that we're barraged with... shit. Like knights, dinobots, Hong Kong, jet boots (wtf), stupid elevator scenes, the deal for the seed.. and it goes on. The movie fractured into a hundred different directions and thoughts.
They should cut out most of the goofy stuff (mainly with Joshua) for the ending and it would have been better received.
You know, Bay actually said the elevator scene wasn't planned but Bingbing wanted a fight scene so he added one. Should've just cut it.
For as much as I enjoyed the movie, I would admit that the pacing was definitely a little weird; it felt like the production team was trying to cram three movies into one run, but for me the shifting focuses and atmospheres didn't deter from the storytelling. If anything, I was happy that it was so long because I was having such a good time that I was genuinely unaccepting of the idea that the credits would roll. Shane was anything but useless, and that's what bugged me about him.
I've only seen AoE once so far (plan on seeing the IMAX3D later this week) and I really enjoyed everything up till the scene where Bumblebee and Crosshairs take on the drone ships. After that scene the film did become somewhat of a mess because the plot was all over the place, the special effects get a little subpar due to the KSI-cons, the human characters become nothing but props during the Hong Kong battle, and while the Hong Kong battle was fun to watch, it did approach unnecessary long levels due to the rooftop chase, trying to protect the seed, the elevator scene(WTF), and the magnet scene. Had it not been for the Dinobots, I would've considered AoE's final battle on RotF levels of bad.
I don't agree. I enjoyed the movie, but the ENTIRE movie was bloated. You could cut plenty of first half scenes out and second half scenes out to form a more solid running movie.
I actually hated the first half because of the barn scene. The second half was better cause it had lots of action, gun fire and explosions
