I don't care if Bay doesn't care. I'm also right there with him in not caring who does not like AOE. It's too bad they didn't get a movie they'd enjoy, but ultimately, it's not important. Lots of movies I didn't or wouldn't like have been released this year. Life goes on. They're movies.

Which is exactly what a director should say in the wake of criticism.

I mean hell, he's already taken some critiques of the previous films to heart in AOE. The crude humour being one of them, as well as people complaining that the robots were visually generic as well as lacking in personality.

Michael Bay will never be a great director, but the fact that he takes so much heat and just smiles and says it's a good thing honestly mystifies me. You'd think he'd be bitter or in denial or something, but he takes it well.

If he can't be an great director, at least he can be a good sport.

something to keep in mind, Bay is only shooting the script hes given. and most of the gripes people have about the movies typically lie with the script, ie, Ehren Kruger is the root problem, not Bay. I'm with Tikgnat, Bay makes a pretty movie, when he has a good script to work with.

Yeah, contrast that to Lucas' response in the wake of criticism of each Star Wars prequel: Bitterness, denial, defiance. Instead of adjusting to or addressing criticism, he just defiantly dug in his heels and doubled-down on anything people said they hated.

What I just can't, don't & won't understand is how anyone who even remotely liked or loved the previous three movies could somehow possibly not like AOE. To me that's just an impossible scenario to happen. It is unequivocally light years better than ROTF & DOTM in every single way from top to bottom and start to finish, and actually managed to turn a TON of us so-called "haters" into fans of the movies. Well, this single installment anyway. So how could so many of us who loathed those first three train wrecks suddenly love this one? And how could many people who loved those previous three train wrecks possibly hate this one? It just doesn't make sense.

    Yeaaaaah. Right.

If the Transformers movies made "twice the money" under a different director, they'd come close to rivaling Avatar and Titanic for the title of "financially most successful movie of all time". Hyperbole much?

On the other hand, the franchise certainly wasn't "dying" before the movies, it was going relatively strong. The 2007 movie simply turned Transformers from a successful toy line into a global multi-media brand.

Also, the 2007 movie was already planned long before Michael Bay signed on as the director. It wasn't his initiative.

Maybe not twice, but you get my point. We are the ones that grew up with the franchise, we are the ones with the money, I didn't bother taking my kids this time because of what we have recieved in the past. So at least from my end the film only got a quarter of the money I would have been prepared to part with....

    My thoughts exactly.

Critic: I hate your movies. They suck.

Bay: Well if they suck then how do explain the 20 million dollars my movie just made me? And :bay Here's another movie that just made me richer than you critic

I don't think you can overstate the importance of that, though.

Both these statements are true, so I'll just add that maybe both sides should lay off the hyperbole? Michael Bay is neither a poison to TFs holding it back from true greatness, nor is he it's one and only savior from what would have been a certain death.

He just directed a handful of movies that made TFs a lot bigger and more diverse than it used to be.

why would he care? we keep paying him billions of dollars anyways. he could shit on screen at this point for 2 and a half hours, in these movies, and we'd still all pay to see them.

    because we are all fools.

Negative criticism helps him make better movies??? ....when is this going to happen .... I'm still waiting.... This is like the Hulk saying the madder he gets the weaker he gets.
