Of course I only had two, I think it was a brown bear in blue armor and an orange bat in dark armor and a green hook for the one hand. I liked the bat the most. They were pretty cool and had rub signs.
actually several years back Takara released newer versions of the Battle Beasts titled Beast Saga, complete with a manga & TV anime series, they are somehow hard to find outside of Japan.
Yup, I still have a few of mine, in a box somewhere. Some of my favorites were the Snake, the Spider, and a certain fish that I would today call @WhiteMocha .
Ha! Yooooou raaaaaang? Yup, as my avatar would imply, I'm a Battle Beasts fan as well. I actually really like all of the aquatic guys.... my avatar Killer Carp, the Shark guy, the Octopus Guy, the Cuttlefish guy, etc. I've thought about replacing my Avatar with the Cuttlefish a few times, but, eh, too lazy. Absolutely! Big fan of the line. And in case you weren't aware, Battle Beasts are actually part of the Transformers universe if you go by the Japanese G1 continuity (something I didn't find out till I was an adult... although the heat-sensitive rubsigns should have clued me in).
This is a pretty good resource, if you're looking to hunt down certain figures: STA: Battle Beasts: Playsets: Battle Beasts & Laserbeasts Action Figures Now that I see the names, I know I had: Killer Carp Triple Threat Snake Rocky Rhino Danger Dog Sir Sire Horse Web Slinger Spider Powerhouse Mouse Panzer Panda I always wanted Pirate Lion and Knight Owl, but never got them. Though I had friends that had these two and many more. Haha, awesome. Of course, you can change your avatar whenever you want, but I'll be bummed out if you do. I'll always associate that avatar with your posts. Yeah, same. I don't think there were many kids in the U.S. that knew Battle Beasts had any connection to Transformers, because Hasbro chose not to play up that angle.
Haha, yeah, funny how people get identified with their avatars over time. I know what you mean... if you changed yours from Fett, it would throw me off! I probably won't change mine anytime soon, though. It's tradition at this point! Plus I still like the colors of that guy, and his toothy grin. Another great aspect of the Battle Beast line was the bases. I loved those three transforming animal-themed bases, with their little jail cells and whatnot.
I always like Battle Beasts. I have been of the opinion that Battle Beasts and Inhumanoids would be better suited for the IDW universe than Miconaughts and Rom.
fun fact, as for more of the Transformers & Battle Beasts connection, in the recent Titans Return line Twinferno's titan master Daburu is actually based on a Battle Beasts character which referencing the Japanese G1 series, that is awesome.
That was the idea behind the marketing, to reveal who had the advantage over who -- Water > Fire > Wood > Water. I just looked at them as 3 different warring factions, with no predetermined advantage/disadvantage to each other, when I would play. In fact, I might have even removed certain rub signs that I didn't agree with, like any Aquatic Battle Beast having anything other than the water rub sign.
I always thought beaver dams and such. Yeah, I had a lot of Battle Beasts when I was a kid, single cards and the gift set! Lost all of them over the years except for one Harrier Hawk. He lost his rub symbol, but does have my one remaining Starcom pistol. I also bought a handful from someone's online auction back in the mid-90s (no ebay then).
I had a bunch of these guys and unfortunately I sold them years ago (to a guy in Sweden I think...). I had about 50+ including one of the chariots and the water base, the shark that unfolds into a waterfall. I loved them; they were great toys and I really didn't pay much attention to the factions either. Basically split them into good and bad depending on what they looked like.
You should check out Beast Saga - they were supposed to be a modern update. The figures were well sculpted. The only downsides were: 1. The plug on their backs would jut out if one puts in a 'dice'. 2. Weapons were 'gummy'. 3. Not much characters...I think less than 30? I could be wrong. If you're into Transformers, there's a tribute of sorts...the 'headmaster' for Twinferno (a Monsterbot) is the 'lion' character. If I remembered correctly, in the Japanese series, the Monsterbots were left on the Battle Beast planet to protect it.
I bought like 20 of these at a flea market a couple years ago for 25 cents each. Turned around and sold them, which I now kind of regret.
