I’m really glad Conroy shared his story in the DC Pride special. It revealed a whole new perspective to a man who’s the de facto voice of an iconic hero. Gone too soon.

Kevin Conroy was truly one of the greats, both professionally and personally.

The first convention I met him, Amagaddon 2011, I was a ways back in a long autograph line and, within earshot of his table, I was told they were going to need to cut off the line early.

I was planning to be at the con all weekend, and Conroy was the only guest I had yet to meet, so I was very confident I could be first in line the next morning.
I told the volunteer managing the line that it would be okay, I could come back tomorrow, no stress, and I wandered off to look at a nearby comic dealer booth.

Conroy must've paid attention because less than ten minutes later I was taking a look through a Walking Dead TPB and I heard my girlfriend calling my name, trying to get my attention. I turned and found myself looking up at Kevin Conroy's smiling face.

I was so starstruck in that moment, I barely remember what I said to him. I just remember him being super kind and humble. He offered to sign my Batman figure then and there, in the Kings Comics booth!

First he signed the backing card, up the top where there is artwork of the Batman figure, then he said "hmmm, that's a bit hard to read," so he signed again and he remarked across the plastic bubble "I am the night, I am Batman!" It came up looking terrific!

I did come back and speak to him again the next morning, first in line, and that was great, but nothing will ever compare to the one time I was pursued by Batman.

    ~L~

Kevin Conroy, to me, was my Batman growing up. It really saddens me to hear this news. :(

My Dad grew up on Batman, actually doing a few comic shows here and there with Adam West himself. My very first toy was a Batman plushie given to me shortly after I was born. For Father's Day a little bit back, I got ahold of Conroy on Cameo. I shared my connection with my Dad via superheroes, and how we would watch all these cartoons together, JLU, Brave and the Bold, etc. So the Cameo video he recorded for my Dad was so heartfelt and genuine. This is a tough loss for sure...

Damn... I just saw him in that TAS documentary and I thought to myself how old he looks, I always assumed he was younger yet. Now I know why he looked so rough...

I feel this clip is appropriate here, to have Mark Hamill say the final words.

    :(

Watching some old episodes now in remembrance. It’s like a piece of my childhood has suddenly been ripped away.

    WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK???!!!

No, no, this can't be real. He was at Denver Comic Con a few years ago, but I chose to meet Phil Lamarr instead since I figured there would be plenty of time to meet him. This fucking sucks! Talk about a shitty way to end an awful week.

RIP to the GOAT of Batman. No matter how we feel about different movies, shows, and comics it is Kevin Conroy voice as Batman that unites as all.

He and Batman TAS in general made me take Batman seriously after Adam West turned him into a joke. In Hungary, we did not have any of the comics or the older cartoons, prior to the Burton movie (that my parents would not let me watch) therefore all us kids thought of Batman as a joke character. It was Batman TAS, which we could see in english on Cartoon Network, what changed many kid's perception, including mine.
Kevin will be sorely missed. News of his illness explains to me why he was not playing the character in many of the more recent DC direct-to-DVD movies.

    RIP, Mr. Conroy.

He is THE Batman. And I know he’s done plenty of other work, but Batman is the one he’ll always be known best for. Absolute legend.

I know how you feel. A few years ago I was going to meet Carroll Spinney (and I’m a huge Muppet fan so this was big) but I found out shortly before the con I couldn’t go, then he passed a few months later. :(

I watched Mask of the Phantasm last night in his memory. This is one of those rare celebrity deaths that I'm not just saying the words "that's sad". This one definitely brought out actual sorrow in me.

I don't think any of us did. Diane Pershing's post of Facebook the morning of was the first I heard confirming he was battling an illness, with the cancer confirmation later in the day.

Does someone know what type of Cancer he was battling?
I had no idea he was battling it.
Though he looks very thin, I thought he's just aging.

My mother died with Pancreatic Cancer months ago.
A type of rare cancer but very lethal for senior citizens.
