Most people know about this series, and IMO it's the best Batman show ever, and probably will stay that way. I always hear people talking about it, and everytime something Batman shows up it's always compared to this show. What exactly do people like about it so much? I know why I love it, I even liked Batman: Beyond, (even if I got sad when I thought Harley died in Return of the Joker, but she was okay! Old but okay) though I admit I never watched much of JL or the other spinoffs. Batman's just a great character in it, and it has the best interpretation of his classic villians ever. I recently got the complete series after long deliberation and I'm loving the trip down memory lane. I was only two, maybe three when it first hit airwaves here so I never saw it all and remembered even less. Great show, great atmosphere, great writing, great music, great voice acting and animation. Kids of the 90's were spoiled with great cartoons, but to me, Batman: The Animated Series is the best of them. Just don't ask me which I like better; BW or BM: TAS, because my brain will break. Also, It gave us Harley Quinn! The best clown sidekick ever!
This and The Batman are my two favorite superhero cartoons. I only saw a few episodes of BTAS, but I loved them.
You should check out some more. And yeah, I forgot about The Batman. That was a good show, but when Batgirl showed up I went from watching it religiously to never watching it again.
Batgirl has that effect on people, apparently. I never understood what Dick Grayson saw her in TAS/The Adventures of Batman & Robin or The New Batman Adventures though. She annoys me in everything except the comic books (Birds of Prey and Nightwing, anyhow).
I actually never minded Batgirl in TAS. Then again I'm goign chronologically in my veiwing, and I haven't seen her yet. (Well, I skipped ahead to watch Holiday Knights at a friend's recommendation. Funny ass shit with Harley/Ivy, and Batgirl didn't bother me there at least)
I used to watch this show with my brother, had to be early or mid 90's. The intro used to scare me . Back in the day when people only had 1 or 2 TVs in their house.
You know what show is better-Spectacular Spiderman I don't see the reasoning of why BTAS is considered the best superhero cartoon ever. Yes, it gaves the most memorable Batman(Conroy beas any live action performance), best Joker voiced by Luke Skywalker, best Alfred, and only a few good vilains are that memorable (Harley Quinn, Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ra's Al Ghul, Two-Face, and Riddler) while the rest are your typcal Saturday AM villains. A 85% of episodes are awesome like Heart of Ice, the first Two-Face two-parter, Nothing to Fear, On Leather Wings to list a few while the other bad episodes are cringe-worthy like Tyger, Tyger or Be A Clown. Also, no continuity whatsoever until Justice League came along. Let's not forget the shw's mediocre animation that didn't do justice to the awesome character models. Don't get me wrong I like BTAS, but I feel Spectacular Spiderman has more memorable characters especially the villains, better story continuity, and better animation. And just for nostalgia sake
Spectacular Spider-Man is also newer, that's why the Animation is better, but I've seen it and I just can't stand that show, but I've never been a hardcore Spider Man fan. (I stay away from Marvel's Universe unless Iron Man or Deadpool are involved) Batman: TAS is way better still. And from how you wrote that it seems you secretly agree. "Aside from pretty much everything about this show being fantastic, it's still not that good." though it's not a fair comparriosn for Spider-Man, since Batman: TAS is a mature, dark and in-depth show, wheras Spidey's just a kid's show. Batman is dark, edgy and serious. Spidey is peppy, bright and aloof. Just compare theme songs for crying out loud. There's the perfect comparison.
You know what time year this show started right? I mean wasn't it only about 8 years after the original TF series aired. What kind of animation did you want?
Batgirl's handled pretty well in TAS. You'll probably actually end up liking her as well as the rest of the cast. Don't know if you've ever seen it, but if not, I highly reccomend TAS's first feature length movie, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Very good flick there.
Yeah, and considering some episodes actually had Animation better than what you'd find today is testiment to how the show is able to hold up. I was just about to mention that, and I haven't seen it, but I want to.
It really seems like almost any show with the title of "Animated" in it, is pretty awesome. Batman, Spiderman, Superman, X-Men, Transformers.
BTAS is my favorite American animated show, allot of which has to do with the craft that was put into it. The writing and voice work are great as well, but the direction and the deliberate effort to present it like movies from the 30s and 40s are what takes it up a notch.
Yes, I love the 40s look to it, and so do the people I watch it with. There's so much effort put into that show, they really made it to last.
Batman was just awesome to watch growing up, and I remember seeing Mask of the Phantasm in theaters my freshman year in high school, and was just blown away. I loved watching the show, and still do. It's awesome how they had direct to video movies, and then the World Finest movie, and then sort of spun off and helped get other shows in the same universe off the ground. When Marvel shows started coming out around that time, Spider Man, X Men, Iron Man, Hulk, F4, I had really hoped that they would do the same sort of thing, by keeping them in the same universe somewhat, well, they had Iron Man and Hulk crossovers, and Spiderman/X Men, but that was about it. The Batman series is the gift that keeps on giving!
Man, World's finest. I remember that little fiasco. I didn't watch the Superman series, but A friend did. He called me up when it was on to tell me to turn on the channel. At the commercial I ran over to his house and we watched the rest. I always remember the Harley vs. Mercy fight. We laughed our asses off.
I remember wanting to see it, but my brother guarded his VHS with his life. I got really excited when I was able to see it on Toonami. Who won that BTW? Was it Harley? I can never remember.
Harley did. I don't remember how though, been awhile since I last saw that movie. Might've knocked her out with a spring loaded boxing glove.
