So. They brought back Jason Todd to do ... that?! Beating a dead horse is an understatement. Plus, you now have a major continuity problem with Infinite Crisis -- where Batman was clearly shown talking calmly and rationally with Nightwing, AFTER the Bludhaven bombing which happened end of 649/beginning of 650. If the ending of 650 is to have ANY emotional resonance whatsover, that shouldn't have happened. Fuck it, Bats shouldn't be doing ANYTHING of import in IC after that. In short, Winick needs to get back to what he does best: making gorillas projectile vomit. A lot. -XCN-
Spoilers! / / / / / / / / / / / This is how I interpreted the ending: Joker shoots the C4, boom the top of the building blows up. In the last panel of the rubble you can see Batman survived the blast as his sillouhette is shown standing in the rubble. Did Jason or Joker survive? We don't know as their bodies are not shown. Batman cries out "Jaaasooon!" because he is angry and also calling out to see if he is in the area alive. I assume Batman can't find either one and he then darts off to Bludhaven to help Nightwing. Thusly, to me it still fits into continuity with IC. As for the last page with all the incarnations of Batman falling through space, who knows. I enjoyed the issue nonetheless.
Stay tuned for the Annual which will square things up a bit with Batman before he jumps back into the Crisis. Oh and we finally find out how JT surrvived.
