As for the veracity of his comments, it seems to be centered mostly around an increase in supply to cards and reprints of older ones which will drive secondary prices down as a result. While the situation may be bad for him as an investor (and if it is, who gives a fuck about the financial woes of a Wall Street investor), it's probably acceptable or even a positive for the MtG community (I wouldn't know, I don't play). "Ruining" it is a bold claim when really it just means he gets less money.

Reminder that the majority of Reddit users aren't very smart so I'd take this guy's summary with a hefty grain of salt.

Sounds like one guy who works for BoA who is an angry nerd who's just unhappy with changes.

Stock predictions aren't usually based on such granular actions that don't really speak to broader company performance.

 

I was honestly surprised they think mtg is such a cornerstone of Hasbros income.

 

I'm sure putting the guy in charge of Magic in charge of Hasbro will have no negative consequences.

 

Why does having an original versus a reprint matter for tournaments? For play it's all about the function of the card. It could be a stick figure with a description on a piece of notebook paper. It does the same thing. It seems like they are paywalling tournaments to me.

I read about the actual 30th edition product, and it literally will have no effect on the game at all. It's no more dramatic than when Hasbro started reissuing G1 figures. They are not tournament legal, and they are similar to products MTG has made for decades. This whole thing is silly

 

G1 Optimus wasn't being sold for $1k, either.

 

No different from the Eternia situation: way to fuck off the fanbase with a celebrative playset that few people can afford, in a 17 euro toyline.
