What bands are really good live? I haven't really seen that many but here are some that I know of.

I don't really like U2 at all but they are pretty good live. They put on a good show. Or did anyway.

I've never seen Led Zeppelin live but any live recording I've heard from them tells me they were most definitely a live band. Their songs are better outside the studio.

Metallica is pretty amazing to see because of the energy they fill the place with. I saw them in the 90s.

I've never seen Iron Maiden live but again, I've heard they are pretty amazing.

Overkill, my favorite band, which is an old-school Thrash Metal band really rock the house. They're amazing live.

Alice Cooper puts on an amazing show as well, getting "killed" in different ways, which is great.

Judas Priest are amazing, Rob Halford sounds exactly like he does on the albums.

Never seen them but Gwar is supposed to be hilarious and disturbing.

Yeah, best live shows I've ever seen. The energy, both on stage and in the audience, was palpable.

They are. Maiden was the first metal concert I ever went to, and was a great introduction to concert-going.

Another awesome live band is Queensryche. They're all about the show.

Rush were undoubtedly the tightest band I've ever seen live. Neil Peart is a computer, Geddy's bass tone is the best ever, and Alex just holds it down. Really hope I get to see those guys again.

My favorite concert ever was Mindless Self Indulgence. It was in a small venue, I was right up front by Lyn-Z Way, it was nuts. Got to say hey to 3/4ths of the band and got autographs and stuff. That was a fabulous night.

The Dillinger Escape Plan were probably the craziest in terms of stage presence. They just rage up there. How their guitar player could jump around off speakers and things like that and still play perfectly baffles me.

Lady Gaga puts on a hell of a show, and she sounds great backed by an actual band too. That show was a lot of fun.

Some other tight bands include: The Black Dahlia Murder, As I Lay Dying, Cattle Decapitation, The Ghost Inside (seen them three times), fucking WHITECHAPEL (seen them twice), Alice in Chains, etc. I seen a lot of bands I could go on all day.

I saw Rush in Hershey back in 2008. Holy crap the energy when they hit the stage was just amazing. By the end of the night my hands hurt from all the clapping and my feet hurt from all the stomping to Neil's drums.

I'd like to see U2 someday but with Bono's injuries, I don't know when that could be.

I forgot about Rush. A lot of music from 3 guys. I forgot about Queensryche too. I've never seen them live but love their music.

Iced Earth would probably be a great band to see live too. I would jump at the chance.

I haven't been to a concert in ages, but I recall being blown away by Weezer and Radiohead live.

The best love concert I ever saw was Guns and Roses. We got a 4 hour concert, the next day, they played for half and hour. So ymmv.

Well I can certainly vouch for Weird Al, he was great.

According to a buddy of mine who was a concert nut; KISS, Iron Maiden and Marilyn Manson are pretty epic. Another said P!nk did an amazing show when he worked security, and my mother spoke very highly of Dire Straits and Tina Turner.

I've seen literally hundreds of bands, some that are great live, some, not so much.
    Personal favorites:
Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, James (UK band), Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

And bands that were memorably great live when I saw them many years ago: Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica, U2, Faith No More, 16 Horsepower, Supergrass, Manic Street Preachers, Jane's Addiction.

Aerosmith, Redbone, Marvin Gaye (though he's not a band, I wouldn't leave him out), the Commodores, Kool and the Gang. At least I think they're good. Oh and Weezer.

Marilyn Manson put on the best live show I have ever seen. Saw him at Ozzfest 2001 in Pittsburgh. His stage show made me a fan for life.
