I finally got around to repainting a 1/48 Bandai DX VF-1S with super parts into a G1 Jetfire toy version. I kept a good deal of the markings including the Macross/Robotech symbol. This was done in an effort to emulate the Matsushiro version of the G1 toy. I love how it turned out so much so that I needed to grab a G1 Jetfire to put next to it .

Finally someone did it, I was starting to get worried. I need a reference like this for my own version.

 

Never had Jetfire. I know he’s not show accurate but I’ve always wanted him.

 

If you ever need pics, lessons learned, or any techniques I used just let me know. Where to apply the paint was pretty straight forward using pics of the G1 toy.

I always wanted to see that toy scheme on a release. I’ve planned on doing something like this custom after finding it on google. Still not as cool as yours.

 

Ooh that one is dope too! And thank you btw. It would be awesome if they could release the Jetfire paint scheme for a DX VF1. Too bad they’ll never bother to work with hasbro and harmony gold will never let something like that release stateside.

 

Hasn't that whole suit been dismissed with prejudice - meaning Harmony Gold ain't gonna be pursuing Jetfire Related Tomfoolery anytime soon?

 

‍♂️ Dunno maybe. I don’t follow it closely enough. Last I saw they got their license extended. But even if HG were out of the way, it’s difficult to imagine a DX Jetfire or Takara MP Jetfire. All that being said, I’d love for one or both to happen . The more the merrier I say!

Wow, brilliant work! I pre-ordered this on release to do this exact custom, but ended up selling it on MISB a year ago. Not sure I would've been able to make it turn out as well as you have!

Is he floating on a flight-stand in that group robot-mode shot or is that his actual height?

 

slick lines, clean color application, accurate detail. I don't like to call things perfect, but this is an absolute 10/10. Fantastic custom.

Thank you, Sam! It’s on an acrylic riser stand. The actual height is similar to the FT Grimlock, maybe just a tad shorter at the head.

I was waiting for some chrome backed labels to come in. I tried one out, and well it just didn’t look that good on the semi-gloss finish. Now I’m waiting on some less reflective silver backed ones to arrive.

Oh that would be dope! I kinda want to do it again with one of the Hi-Metal R ones for a “legends” scale version.

 

If you buy a certain amount of stickers from Reprolabels, they send a free sheet of silver-outline faction stickers, printed on clear plastic. They're the best faction stickers from Reprolabels, IMO, but they've refused to sell them directly. I totally recommend them instead.
