Is there a specific colour for the arms and knees or did you have to mix colours together to get the right shade?

Personally Sideswipe's head bothers me. Maybe he just needs bigger horns and then I'd say he's perfect for me. But other than that, I admit, I want to see other Transformers.

    I didn't like Takara's Sideswipe's head. Nobody wins.

I don't know why they made the head so small....there is a little more room for a bigger head. As far as the horns...they are small-sh due to the design of the head transformation. If I had any 3D chops, I would design him a new one....but alas, I do not....shakka when the walls fell.

I heard this was getting a re-issue. I love my MP12 but did consider getting the + version. Not due to toon accuracy but because the joint pieces are uniform with the limbs rather than a black joint and white arms. Just looks nicer. The grey wheels are shit though.

For people who have Steamroll and MP12+, which do you prefer?

I had both. I sold 12+. Steamer isn't perfect, but he does the job in both modes better than official. Official kind of looks like hell in alt mode due to all the seams and the compressed chest on this guy gets him the win in bot mode too. Iirc, the official has a more fun transformation, though. I dont remember this guy's transform offhand.

MP12/MP12+ is fine but I'd have to give the edge to Steamroll for the reasons @kibble mentioned plus Steamroll has flip-up headlights and rubber tires.....features missing in the Takara version. Takara simply refuses to use rubber tires unfortunately even with their current insane prices on all new molds. I simply can't justify a purchase from Takra anymore. For me it's 3P or high quality Takara KOs going forward.

I prefer Steamroll by a lot. I avoided it for a very long time as I chose to get the Red Alert because I already had MP12. For whatever reason I bought Steamroll one day and it impressed me way more than Recon. I had to retire my MP12 but I bought MP Clampdown so I can still enjoy its classic transformation.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate those comments; very helpful. Yeah, MP12's transformation is very fun and almost mainline-like. That's one of my biggest joys with the mold is that I can transform it in a minute and have fun doing so, and it looks great in both modes. Thinking about it, I own a number of the mold, Lambor, Red Alert, Tiger Track, and G2 Sideswipe.

I am probably going to buy Steamroll this weekend but I would still keep MP12.

Does anyone know if Steamroll can hold MP12's gun OK?

I'm not sure about that at all. If not, MP-12 style guns specifically for Steamroll and Recon are available on Shapeways.

I like how the shoulder cannon is part of the transformation, mp-12 has a more toon look though for my tastes, saying that though recon is more toon accurate than mp-14 mold from what I remember of red alert in the cartoon.

I like both.. having two diferents molds adds variety on the shelf. I had the Mp12 and later i get the Red Alert from Bad Cube.

Takara for that boxy-strong bot look and fun of transformation and Bad Cube for the poseability. Both have good things over the other, and none is perfect.

The grey wheels are for sure a specific taste. I just like it cause it’s not exactly human like and it’s a bit more weird/alien.

this is the first I heard of this. I would prefer they put out G2 version and a toy version rather that re-release the regular version which can still be had fairly easily online.

Oh yeah...I pick steamroll easily. Better articulation + better alt-mode + compressing chest = win in my book.

I'd buy a more toy/real-world deco'd one in a second. A few more black bits painted in for car mode (and maybe smoke/clear instead of blue for the glass) is all it really needs to be perfect in my eyes.

(Ignoring sculpt things, like a better head).

I'd probably go for a more Toy-colored one, but honestly I just like the cleaner chest. It just feels weird when he has such a broad chest. That's more in line for Red Alert, if anything.

I do wonder how well a totally real-world one would sell, as it'd be noticeably different/unique, vs all the 'solid red' ones--
black fender arches, black bottom, black spoiler pylons, and of course "Rallye Racing" markings:

(this is the specific car the G1 toy was trying to copy, but the paint/deco budget then simply didn't allow for anything other than the front bumper being black, and a sticker on the roof)
