I agree that diecast just for the sake of having it is pointless, Sunsurge certainly doesn't feel any worse for not having any.

MMC do use diecast on occasion, Sphinx and Jaguar both have a bit.

Spartan doesn't but feels as solid and sturdy as anything I have in my collection.

People need to remember die cast is garbage metal. In other circles it's referred to as pot metal. I don't mind die cast in feet for stability, that's about it for me. I don't know the cost of die cast vs plastic in toys but I would rather have the die cast budget go to paint or higher quality plastic (that is if the die cast costs more).

Anyways, just dumped Spinout and picked up Sunsurge. Can't wait to have him next to mp Sideswipe!

Out of all the (deserved) praise he gets, he has one minor flaw if you haven't read about it yet -- it's the hinge/grey plastic thing behind the left side of his fake chest. It can press up against/slightly stress the chest when in robot mode. So be careful if you find yourself "forcing" the upper/shoulders into place.

Also, it takes a minute, but make sure the shoulders and neck look like this:

    _|_

    Instead of this:

    \|/

The shoulder area/neck should all be flat across and not crooked or bent upwards.

That's aboot it! Hope you enjoy.

Don't fret over which handsome face to use. He's hot and he knows it. Switch faces on the weekly! Lol

Thanks for adamantly disagreeing without actually reading my post. In no way did I ever say that toys should have unnecessary diecast for no reason, and I explicitly stated TWICE that I wasn't referring to this toy specifically. Merely that in general, consumers often equate light weight plastic items with "cheap", and it's not realistic to expect people to completely divorce from those ingrained notions just because you happen to like a certain figure that may or may not be hefty.

Yeah I'm actually not a diecast fan at all. If there's a plastic version I tend to go for that. My binltech figures are all more floppy than my alternators

Ah well, okay then. That was my mistake :)

But yeah, regardless I still stand by what I said in general I mean. Some diecast here and there, on a heft figure for say, balance .. That is good :)

Welp, that's unfortunate.. I never noticed stress marks or issues with that area before.

Just curious, are there any joints like this on Badcube's Wardog? I was giving serious thought to picking him up as well, but now I'm rather turned off to the idea.

There's a lot of moving parts on Wardog but iirc none of it is clear plastic, there are some scary bits though too. Best thing do is watch a transformation video or two.

Damn, just transformed my second Sunsurge and found out it has two right hands. I bought it back in December from The Chosen Prime, but didn't think to transform it and check for the correct hands. Hopefully they can still help me.

Did the same thing to mine. I left just a little bit of nub to help alignment but those pegs were way longer than needed. That mod and de-ratcheting the ankle helped a ton.

This guy is now out of stock at TFSource, but looks like BBTS still has a few. When this guy sells out, do you guys think they'll do another run of him, or should I pick him up now while I have the chance? I've been trying to hold out to see which official releases are announced for the end of this year... but I might not have the luxury of waiting.

I think this WAS the second run.

But yes, I think they'll reproduce him so long as there's money to be made and market demand.

Dunno, Brawny is extremely in demand and they haven't done another run yet. Not a guarantee that they'll do it for SunSurge.
