I think that they are listening to fans. If they went with rubber, there would be a bunch of fans bitching about that.

It's true that there are always *some* number of fans who are going to complain, regardless of the choice.
Having said that, are you saying that there are *more* anti-rubber collectors in the MP-scale space, than there are people who prefer rubber tires?

Not sure how one can observe the final offering that is Huff and claim Badcube listened to fans.

Depends on the fans you're counting. If there's a consistent piece of criticism of Cubex's Huff, it's the QC and too-much-complexity issues. They appear to have listened to fans on that count.

But if you think in order to show they're "listening to fans," you necessarily have lots molded details/greebles, you're skipping a loud contingent of "Sunbow-first" fans. While I'm not in the Sunbow-first camp (I prefer Hasui-style molded details/greebles), there appear to be many fans who highly value that "clean" cartoon look.

Maybe I am mis-remembering; I thought one of if not the most requested item from fans was slanted cab. Add-in partially painted parts of Huff that cause color mismatches, removing details on the front of the cab (did fans ask for this?), etc. they did their own thing. To me, it seems to have been a cost-cutting initiative.

I agree with your criticisms of their choices. I asked for the same things months ago.
I can't tell if their choices were cost-cutting or what.
But just because *we* are asking for certain things doesn't mean there aren't a large number of fans who regularly say that just about everything is not "G1" enough (and by "g1" they mean Sunbow).

In all fairness, the slanted cab was accurate to the G1 crappy Sunbow animation...which if they were going for animation style like the latest official releases, a slanted cab would have been a no brainer.

I don't recall some, if any, people complaining about Sunsurge's rubber tires.

They could've kept the slanted cab which is the basic shape and simply include a bit of detail.....basically a mix of toy & toon like FT, MT, Dx9 etc.
Besides I wouldn't exactly call this crappy animation, especially not this episode.

Sunbow as a whole was crappy animation despite a few episodes or more like a few minutes of a few episodes where the animation wasn't completely awful.

That said, the slanted cab and added detail is the primary reason I prefer V1 over V2 Huff. I think the only thing that ended up better from a design standpoint on V2, was the lower legs.

Things that there seem to be no consensus by collectors on:

    Rubber tyres
    Clear vs. opaque windows
Featureless (animation style) vs line work (early Masterpiece and many 3P) on large surfaces of a toy

I guess that the straight sided cab was easier to collapse than trying to colapse a slanted cab. However, it isn't like Bad Cube is against adding an additional hinge or panel or three to make the transformation work (they really should do a Megatron).

I finally got my V2 today. At first I was thrown off by how light he was, but it's obviously because the cab is hollow. But hot damn, am I impressed! I think there is plenty of paint which definitely shines in bot mode. The unpainted plastic in alt mode doesn't bother me at all.

The transformation is super nice. It's simple, but it doesn't need to be complex. It gets the job done and feels very polished and both modes look great.

This really makes me want to get Pipes even though he does seem like a disappointment... Maybe I'll add a little paint myself to spice him up. I wish he had a collapsing cab too, because that is really the icing on the cake for Huffer.

This guy looks stunning and has been getting rave reviews all over, if I cared about the character enough I would have pulled the trigger but I don't, also I have a sneaky feeling TT will eventually get around to him and will top this somehow, someway as they usually do, but he does look very good indeed.

I just hope Terminus part B hurries up as he is holding up this guy as well as a whole lot of other really good stuff in my stash.
